Today we’d like to introduce you to Hazelwood East Class Of 14’
Hi Hazelwood East, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We started this journey a decade ago in 2014 after we graduated with a shared vision of bringing classmates together to serve the community, relive memories, reconnect with old friends, and celebrate the milestones we’ve achieved. Since graduation, we’ve created and participated in alumni panels where we provided educational insights, shared experiences, and offered guidance and inspiration to current students at Hazelwood East High. Additionally, we created and hosted a “Blessing Bag” community service opportunity, where we assembled and distributed bags filled with everyday necessities for those facing financial hardships.
Our very first class reunion will be held October 18-20, 2024, hosted by several dedicated alumni who want to keep the spirit of our school days alive. We will begin by returning to our old stomping grounds and being the first alumni class to experience homecoming on the new field at Hazelwood East High. The weekend will culminate with a formal gala and a family-friendly Sunday Funday for the class of 2014.
Moving forward, we plan to evolve beyond social gatherings by engaging in more community service, awarding scholarships to high schoolers, hosting professional development events, and building a strong network of alumni members.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Although we’ve faced some challenges along the road, we are determined to put together a nice event and create community within our class. Some of the biggest challenges have been raising money, getting in contact with our classmates, and coordinating events that accommodate everyone. Despite these challenges, our passion for creating memories, fostering connections, and celebrating each other has kept us going.
Over the last year, we’ve built a strong team consisting of (Kristen Harris, Jazlyn Logan, Dominic Goldman, Courtney Dancy, Sydney Ojeikere, Ariel Perry, AySharay Crittenden, Sydney Gardner, Melanie Majeed, and Paris Barnes) who contribute their time, skills, and resources to making our class reunion weekend a success.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We have people who possess various talents and who also have experience in a multitude of businesses and corporations. Ranging from typical 9-5 careers to artists and creatives.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to us is paying it forward in impactful ways that benefit current students and the broader community. High school was a formative time in our lives, and the friendships and memories we made are invaluable. By organizing these reunions, we aim to provide a space where classmates can not only reconnect, reminisce, and support each other but also provide scholarships, mentorship, and guidance to those who come after us.
This reunion is about celebrating our shared history, acknowledging our individual journeys, fostering a sense of belonging, and creating a lasting positive impact that helps pave the way for future generations. We look forward to seeing the joy and excitement on everyone’s faces as they catch up with old friends and make new ones. The bonds we help rekindle and the new memories we create together will make all this hard work worthwhile. We believe that maintaining these connections enriches our lives and strengthens our community, and that’s why we do what we do.
