Rising Stars: Meet Jessica Gallegos of Brentwood, MO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Gallegos

Hi Jessica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born and raised in Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico, in a family that deeply values education. With their unwavering support, I completed my high school education in Mexico and then embarked on an exchange student program in Kentucky, USA, for my senior year. Following that transformative experience, I moved to St. Charles, MO, where I earned four bachelor’s degrees from Lindenwood University. My professional journey has been marked by the fortunate ability to leverage my bilingual skills in every role I’ve undertaken. In 2023, St. Louis made history by welcoming Telemundo St. Louis, the first and only Spanish-language TV network in the city. In October of the same year, I was incredibly honored to be chosen as the face and host of Telemundo St. Louis. This role has allowed me to serve and inform the Hispanic community in St. Louis about events and issues that directly impact us. My commitment to my community drives me to always strive for excellence, aiming to make them proud. Beyond my professional work, I love volunteering at Friends of Kids with Cancer, a nonprofit organization based in Maplewood, MO, dedicated to helping kids with cancer be kids. I am also proud to serve as a board member of Young Friends of Kids with Cancer.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been ups and downs and a lot of hard work, but I firmly believe that when you pursue something with passion, dedication, and a positive attitude, the road becomes easier, and doors open for you. The biggest challenges I have faced throughout my journey include being away from home and family, learning a new language vastly different from my own, and adapting to a new country with new traditions and mindsets. This experience has been a renaissance for my life. However, I am forever grateful for this journey and this country, which I am proud to be a citizen of, as it has shaped me into the woman I am today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As the host and reporter for Telemundo St. Louis, I aim to go beyond the role of a traditional presenter by serving as a community connector. My focus is on keeping my audience informed and engaged, with the hope that my work inspires others and demonstrates the transformative power of dedication to one’s community. I am deeply grateful that my professional journey aligns with my passion for fostering positive change, and I am honored to contribute to both my field and my community.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Absolutely, the COVID-19 crisis has taught me the importance of community, adaptability, and resilience. It emphasized the value of staying connected and supporting each other, even from a distance. The experience also highlighted the significance of family and health, deepening my appreciation for every moment together. Overall, the pandemic strengthened my resolve to approach challenges with resilience and to be a positive force in my community.
