Today we’d like to introduce you to Katlin Sexton

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The story of The Larimore began in 1858 with its construction by Wilson Larimore, who designed this stately home in a classic Southern architectural style. The grand Italianate-inspired brick structure, with its elegant two-story facade, was a standout of its time. Featuring intricate detailing and craftsmanship, the home showcases many of the key elements that define Southern architecture, from the symmetry and proportion to the graceful entrance and expansive verandas, it’s no surprise that this stunning building has earned a place on the National Register of Historic Places. It has also been designated a Landmark and Preservation Area by St. Louis County, a testament to the care and attention given to preserving the charm and architectural integrity of the property.

In 2023, The Gilchrist Collection embarked on an ambitious restoration of The Larimore, revitalizing its timeless beauty while enhancing its elegance. Their work ensured that the home’s historical features were preserved, all while updating the space to function as a stunning wedding venue. The painstaking attention to detail is bringing the home back to its former grandeur, offering a stunning backdrop for special occasions.

When I moved to St. Louis in 2023, I was drawn to The Larimore not just for its beauty but for the opportunity to be a part of its ongoing story. With nearly a decade of experience in the wedding and events industry, I was excited to join The Gilchrist Collection and contribute to the future of this charming venue. The chance to work in a such a romantic setting was a natural fit for my professional journey.

Every visit to The Larimore is a step back in time, where the architectural details—from the sweeping entrance to the meticulously restored interiors—create an ambiance of elegance and sophistication. The home’s Southern style, combined with modern enhancements, offers couples a perfect blend of historic charm and contemporary comfort.

Working at The Larimore has been an inspiring experience. The blend of historic grandeur and meticulous restoration creates an unparalleled setting for weddings and special events. Every celebration held within these walls adds to the home’s rich architectural legacy, making The Larimore not just a venue but a living piece of history. Whether attending a wedding or a special event, visitors are greeted by an unforgettable display of architectural beauty that leaves a lasting impression.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Being the General Manager has been the most challenging yet rewarding experience of my career. This role has pushed me to expand my skill set far beyond what I ever anticipated. From hands-on tasks like plumbing and general contracting to more abstract areas such as interior design, pest control, and meteorology, I’ve had to become proficient in a multitude of fields.
Additionally, my responsibilities have spanned across legal, HR, accounting, marketing and sales, requiring a deep understanding of each area. I’ve also found myself stepping into roles similar to a therapist and leader, supporting and guiding my team through various challenges.
This position has demanded the utmost effort and resilience, making it the hardest I’ve ever worked in any job. Yet, the fulfillment and growth I’ve experienced make it all worthwhile. Each day brings new challenges and learning opportunities, and the rewards of overcoming them are truly unmatched.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Talking about oneself can be challenging, but if you were to ask those who know me, I believe I’d be recognized for my patience, understanding, and acceptance. These qualities are what I take the most pride in. My goal is to embody this mindset consistently and to pass it on to my team, so it naturally extends to the couples we work with. Creating an environment where empathy and acceptance are at the forefront is something I strive for every day.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
When it comes to the success of our business, the credit truly belongs to my incredible team. They are the backbone of everything we’ve achieved. Each team member works tirelessly—not just for the couples we serve, but also for me and for The Larimore. Their dedication and resilience are unmatched.
They’ve put up with my intense focus on excellence and my constant drive to be the best. It’s their hard work and commitment that make our success possible, and I am deeply grateful for their unwavering support and effort. Without them, none of this would be possible. They are the unsung heroes of The Larimore!
