Conversations with Laronn Simmons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laronn Simmons

Hi LaRonn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey into DJing began unexpectedly. At the time, I was managing a small lounge in the Delmar Loop, where one of my duties involved booking talent for nightly performances. On one particular evening, the DJ I had scheduled fell ill and was unable to perform. After reaching out to approximately ten other DJs I knew, I discovered that all were already booked. Faced with the choice of either creating a makeshift playlist or learning enough to DJ for the night without disrupting the event, I opted to purchase a DJ controller and begin learning the basics.

A DJ friend generously lent me some music for the evening and provided me with fundamental instruction. That night, I found the experience so enjoyable that I decided to pursue DJing more seriously. The following day, I discussed my experience with our resident DJ, who offered to mentor me. I spent the next month training at his radio station, mastering the craft, and subsequently launched my professional DJ career.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle I faced was figuring out my identity within the DJ space. There is a vast range of event types and DJ styles that exist and figuring out what type of events I had interest in DJing took a lot of time to figure out.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Luxury Event DJ who specializes in Wedding and Corporate events. I pride myself on my music diversity, professionalism, and my ability to adapt to any environment. I am most proud of my ability to create unforgettable moments and contribute to the joy and celebration of a couple’s union. I think the biggest thing that sets me apart from other DJs is my attention to detail and my ability to connect with any audience.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Youtube. I watch business interviews, how-to videos, and even enjoy the occasional comedy show in my leisure time.
