Today we’d like to introduce you to Nikki Trout and Samantha Capstick
Hi Nikki and Samantha, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Back in 2018, Nikki Trout and Samantha Capstick met when their boys played rec baseball together and hit it off right away. Fast forward to 2019, Nikki had a baby girl who was born with cancer. It was a tough and heartbreaking journey, but through it all, Samantha stood by her side. During those challenging years, they realized how much they loved helping moms who were going through hard times—whether it was single moms or moms with sick kids.
After Nikki’s daughter, Sadie, rang the bell to celebrate being cancer-free in 2023, Nikki knew she had a bigger purpose. She told Samantha she was going to quit her job and start a women’s community to support other moms. Samantha was all in!
Their mission? To help adult women build real, healthy, and supportive friendships, and encourage women to show up for each other in meaningful ways. Women NEED community!
In just over a year, they launched the Aligned Mommas Community and a podcast. The success has been absolutely mind-blowing! Their women’s community has grown to thousands, reaching women across Lincoln, Warren, St. Charles, and St. Louis counties. They host monthly in-person socials so women can meet and connect, and organize outreach events where they support a woman in need—whether that’s through cleaning her home, hosting food drives, clothing/furniture donations and more.
Their podcast – called Aligned Mommas Podcast – has over 80 episodes featuring inspiring stories from real women who’ve faced tough challenges and come out stronger. It’s a way to remind those going through hard times that they’re not alone, and also to give others insights on how to support the women in their lives who are struggling.
All women are welcome! You do not need to be a mother to be a part of our community. All ages welcome, too!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We anticipated and experienced financial struggles in year one in order to fully launch the organization and mission. We both quit our jobs to start the mission. That, coupled with the economy right now, has put some heavy pressure on us – but each of our husbands, and we, believe in this mission and see financial provision coming.
With our hearts to help women, and the amount of need out there – prioritizing and balancing our family life with the busy mission IS MORE THAN TOUGH! Soon we’ll be offering others invitations to join our team.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
See above in “Your Story, and…
We are most proud of watching women connect who have shared before joining our community that they didn’t have any close friends. We have seen so many women come together! We also feel very blessed to see the happiness and relief from outreach recipients when our team shows up to help them.
What sets us apart is that we believe we are the first, boots on the ground, grassroots group in Missouri, possibly nationally, to start a movement to help women find friends. Our podcast too, is solely based on encouraging women – iron sharpening iron.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
We are a niche organization and movement. In the future we see women’s conferences, speaking engagements, women’s retreats, published books, thousands upon thousands of supportive friendships spawning, thousands of women blessed in outreach efforts, chapters across the U.S., Aligned Mommas merch and more!
