Meet Breauna Martin of Grooviest Collective

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breauna Martin

Hi Breauna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up art was always a part of my life. My father would play a variety of music ranging from Soul to Alternative Rock. Music has always pulled out emotions that I can’t even express. The complexity and genius behind music began my appreciation for art. It is something truly beautiful about artists taking their experiences and perceptions of the world and sharing it to us. We as the audience, are experiencing their world. Throughout my life, I explored many art forms such as pottery, latch-hooking, and videography. Art takes a lot of time, money and creativity. In my community, there are lots of smaller artists and business. They deserve a spotlight and acknowledgment. Grooviest Collective is a magazine that highlights artists. The first magazine was released September 16th and included 7 impressive artists. The art forms included: architecture, poetry, painting, and photography. It feels amazing to support artists and see the community grow. Currently we are working on the next issue that will be released in December!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been relatively smooth. There were a few struggles in our first issue. Challenges such as; finding engaged artists and creating close to perfect magazine pages. We want to match the pages to the artist’s style but sometimes that can be difficult. However, communication made it a thousand times easier.

We’ve been impressed with Grooviest Collective, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Grooviest Collective is a publication company, officially beginning summer of 2024. Grooviest Collective magazine highlights artists work and story. The mission is to uplift smaller & local artists, and create a community where artists can support each other. Magazines are released every 2 months. The magazine is unique because of the smaller artists we support. Usually magazines cover popular artists and companies. We provide information to artists regarding art residencies and galleries. I am extremely proud of our devotion to help artists and hoping we can find even more ways to uplift people within the community. The magazine is extremely fun. I enjoy the connections I make with the artists, hearing their stories is inspiring. We are always looking for more artists to connect with!

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Magazines are an old form of publications, however, I believe that they will become more digitally integrated. There are already a multitude of digital magazines. The next steps in the industry is to add video and audio. Videos and audio would allow for a larger range of experiences. Videographers and music artists would be able to incorporate their art. Consumer magazines are most popular but there may be a bigger shift to art and entertainment.
