Today we’d like to introduce you to Sōlful Hornz
Hi Sōlful, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Starting in 2020, Sōlful Hornz is a group of high-quality musicians with a variety of backgrounds who combine their talents to create a fun and infectious soulful sound. The group of ‘horn artists’ are based out of Atlanta, GA and consists of trumpeter Dorran Thigpen and saxophonists Ryan Kilgore and Nate Myers. Together and individually, the group has performed with artists such as Tye Tribbett, Jekayln Carr, Jagged Edge, Stevie Wonder, and Anita Baker just to name a few. Their new original single, “The Light” will be available on all streaming platforms by the end of 2024.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly it has not been a smooth road, but well worth it! We wouldn’t necessarily call it a “struggle”, but some of things we had to learn in the beginning stages was learning to build with others, and for all of us to come to the understanding that we don’t have to do everything on our own individually. With all of us being artists individually as well, we each were anlready accustomed to doing everything on our own. So when you start working with other personalities and minds, you have to learn to adjust and be willing to be vulnerable and understand that we can’t do EVERYTHING by ourselves. And that’s okay! Another building block in the beginning, was finding the right individuals that we wanted to work with that fit our collective vision.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are most proud of the consistency and professionalism we have upheld for our business, Sōl Ríz Entertainment LLC, and for our many clients on and off stage. We specialize in improving the lives of people of all ages through the love and power of music. We are not only a Horn group with original music. We are also a horn section for various artists.
One of the things that sets us apart is the fact that we don’t solely focus on the performance aspect of music. We are also big advocates of pushing music education in the schools. We all have experience with working with the youth and education. And of course our infectious soulful sound definitely sets us apart!
What were you like growing up?
One thing we have in common, is that we all have a strong church background. We all grew up as church musicians. That definitely helped us build a solid foundation as brothers and as musicians collectively. We also all attended HBCU’s and marched in the band while attending. Both of these common denominators played a huge influence on our bond and approach to music.
