Conversations with Kelton Barron

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelton Barron

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
A round 2019 myself (Kelton Barron) and our lead guitar player (jack schantz) had two people we had met each other through in high school one of them being our ex drummer and another guitar player we all knew, at that point it was me doing vocals and everybody else making up the rest. It was nothing special just doing old Metallica, diamond head and some very very rough various florida death metal covers lol.
Really that didn’t last long at all we were just trying to make it through school and disbanded from each other until around early 2023 where me, jack and our ex drummer started going to lots of shows and exploring the stl metal scene. Somewhere in that time I hit up jack and we started playing together again and writing our own stuff at the same time I had also been writing with our ex drummer and managed to get practices going between us. About a month after that I had booked our first show through Midwest metal punks with witchaven, traitor and resistis before we even had any songs fully written. After multiple lineup changes we played our fourth show with skeletal remains where we solidified our current vocalist (Griffith ohlin) and bassist (Ian slade) really from there it’s only uphill playing awesome shows with legends like raven, bulldozer, savage master, and our first out of state show in Indianapolis with shredders flesher and our personal hero’s left to die (members of the original death lineup)
Since then we hired our new drummer (Andrew gentemann) and finally booked our studio dates to record our debut album.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been off and on really but it’s never easy trying too take music seriously, we had a demo we wanted to release but with certain events we removed our ex drummer and hired another in which we immediately removed and then hired our current friend. As far as struggles it’s really just getting the lineup straight with members who can and want to do it and take it as far as they can with the rest of the band.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We play thrash in our band chemical dependency, we have recently come up on our one year mark but have definitely tried our best to show everybody that we are very devoted to our music, recently we played with Italian legends bulldozer which was definitely a personally milestone for us as we’re are all huge fans of oldschool metal. I think we are really set apart from other thrash bands I that we have taken all of the subgenres of thrash and really found a way to mesh them well.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
As we have learned taking our time is the key and not rushing into so much so fast, and really important one is getting your lineup solid and sorted in the beginning making sure your band mates are ready too do the same things as everyone else. All things we definitely would go back and do if we could.
