Today we’d like to introduce you to Lavone Morris
Hi LAVONE, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I love fashion & I have been told that I have style. For me, I love all things fashion and growing up we didnt have alot of clothes or shoes. We had church clothes, school clothes & play clothes & the same for our shoes. We were poor & didnt know it and being a teen mom, I learned how to take a little and make it much. So I was known as the layaway queen & then I found myself thrifting at 2nd hand stores, Goodwills & if a yard sale was in my view, I would pull over & shop there too.
Fastforward, I got married in 2014 to my husband & his mom is a boutique owner who traveled several times a year to the MAJIC show in Vegas where there are hundreds of wholesale vendors where you can shop until you drop & I did just that. So many years of shopping I have accumalated alot of clothes, shoes, purses, accesories & more. I love new items, but I love Thrifting too because you find unique & one of kind items! I have always been told that with all my clothes I had a store, way before I decided to open my online boutique.
So one day I decided I would sell my clothes as away to purge my closet & let some things go that I was not wearing or could not fit any longer. So my 1st live sale on Facebook was September 8, 2022 at 12noon in my living room & I decided to sell purses only & got 331 views which was very exciting. Because I had did good at 12noon I tried it a few more times & only a few people would come on & after feedback, I changed the time from 12noon to 6pm. But my offcial FB live was on October 6,2022 out of my closet where I setup racks of clothes & purses. I had some hiccups with internet connection, but it was a good 1st live.
My initial plan was to sell all my clothes only, but then I would get request for larger sizes & so I would go Thrifting weekly & sometimes several times a week looking for fashion finds in larger sizes. I love to shop & shopping for others allowed me to show off my styling skills. As the platform grew I decided I needed a website for my customers to go shop when I was unable to go live. My sales were increasing & opened my online store opened February 27, 2023 which was a huge accomplishment & was a proud.
I have seen growth from where I started to where I am today. My platform is fun fashion were I get to Show, Tell & Sell FlyGirl Fashion and in addition it’s ministry. The shopping goes from styling to me singing, testifying and praising God and the viewers will share their stories too & when it all said & done, it all points back to God. The clothes was just the pathway for me to connect & God does the rest! I will end with my motto “If you love it, gotta have it, buy it!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. The road has had some dips, unexpected turns, dead ends & some hard stops., but we continure to re-route & continue to keep moving. Some struggles come from the inability to go live weekly & when I dont go live weekly I dont make sales days. I thought the website would be my saving grace, but that was not the case. My clients purchase more via live sale over the website.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My daytime job is Epic Analyst working for BJC Healthcare where I support professional billing in Epic software. I specialize in credit card reader, cashdrawers, printer setup & workqueue build. I am most proud of growing in role that I normally would shy away from. What sets me apart from others is my determination to never quick or give up and to continue to try & believe in yourself.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband, Webster Morris deserves 100% recognition in allowing me to explore my business endeavors & supporting me financially to afford the products needed to be successful. He is the man behind the scene in making sure that all things are running as expected. When I do events, he is the lights, camera & action man. He is holding the light on me to make shine & takes not credit for it, without him this would not be possible.
