Hi Falyn, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Headwearbyfal was founded in 2018 while I was a Junior in high school. Before I officially dropped it took me a year to get everything together. We started off just selling bonnets and durags for adults and headbands & headwraps. My brand grew very quickly within two years of being in business we expanded to kid sizes and also ski mask and lacebands. Headwearbyfal started to go from doing business in Saint Louis, MO to having orders all around the world. Fast forward to years later we have grown to have so many products people can choose from & they can enjoy.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting your own business with very little knowledge on how to run a business was definitely the hardest thing I have ever done. Being a business owner at 17 while trying to maintain good grades to graduate high school is not as easy as it seems. Once I graduated high school it was time to do the same exact thing in college, this time I had to deal with covid. It was times I wanted to say forget about my business & just focus on school, but then all my hard work would’ve went down the drain.
While in college I took as many entrepreneurial classes that were available even if my school didn’t offer it. I made sure to never give up on something that is attached to my name. Starting my business is the best thing I have ever done.

What sets us apart from other people is that we use our customers & brand ambassadors to decide on what colors we should add, what products we should add and what price we should sell everything for.
I am most proud that we started from an idea & we have made it to so many magazines across the United States.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice is make connections with any & everybody. Don’t be afraid to speak about your business. Don’t get discouraged from having little to any support with you first start or just having a business in general. Everybody is not your target audience so it’s ok if you don’t sell to everybody. Networking gets you in doors you never knew you could get in. Attend those networking events. Always carry business cards around & leave them in high traffic areas. Whatever you do STAY MOTIVATED AND NEVER GIVE UP !!! Nothing happens overnight just always motivate yourself.
