Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Fritzius
Hi Michael, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started off my career in software – originally as a developer and then got into testing, then test automation. Eventually I started my first company in 2015 and continued the same work but got more into cultural change – the companies that had issues with automating their tests often had cultural issues where people didn’t feel safe to take risk. The company grew until shortly before the pandemic and I eventually had to shut everything down. But I took one of the side services – podcasting – and turned it into its own company called podcastify.me – and it’s been an amazing journey. I’ve grown so much, gotten so much more comfortable with risk, met amazing people and taken part in both building and assisting in building great things.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Ha! No! And I wouldn’t have it any other way. A phrase that comes up in life is, “the bumps in life are what you climb on” and I’ve gotten to be an avid climber.
In 2012 I got diagnosed with an easy-to-cure cancer but it set me on the path of figuring out my priorities. Everything got disrupted.
Since starting business, there have been more than a few nights that I wake up at 3am almost on the dot, and I have to pray through how I’m feeling, and figure out what I actually have control of. And I always have to make sure I’m aligned with my values and principles.
But I love the journey. I’m convinced that if things were easy I’d be incredibly bored.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about podcastify.me?
While we’re listed as a podcast agency (which is the “how” of what we do) the “what” is that we help business owners free up a bunch of time, and create something that builds relationships with the right people.
Our focus isn’t to get a ton of listeners so that a podcast can gain sponsors. That’s not our goal. Instead, we make it possible to surround the host with 500 avid supporters. Some may become clients, but they’ll also become a mix of affiliates, strategic partners, brand ambassadors, superconnectors, and more. Not just passive guests and listeners.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
When I first started out I didn’t realize what a powerful networking tool a podcast was. Although I’ve learned a lot, I’m still learning.
Every episode I host, and every episode our clients host, is a chance for a deep connection. Active listening leads to strong relationships, and there’s a higher chance they’ll convert in some way later.
When you start a podcast (or even get out there as a guest), focus on the relationships that you’re building. Yes other people will hear the episode but connect with the person on the other side of the mic first.
