Today we’d like to introduce you to Dan Rathmann
Hi Dan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Per my last Interview, I grew up in a small town called Troy, Kansas. Through the years I developed a passion for entertainment such as acting, improv, comedy and even some singing and dancing. While in high school, one teacher stood out the most and really pushed me to do better and her name was Mrs. Rockey. She was an English Teacher but also our Drama/Theatre Teacher as well. My favorite class was Theatre Arts because of her style of teaching and mentorship. But last year, she passed suddenly without me knowing she was even ill or anything was wrong. When I got the news, I was pretty devastated because she was a major influence on me wanting to entertain for a living including our last conversation where she said “I thought you would be in Hollywood by now.” So in honor of her I developed a new way philosophy to live by and it’s even on my wristbands now called “Effort Meets Fate” and I set out to build a comedy scene in the area and to pursue my entertainment career that she seemed to believe so much in me to do. From May 2023 until now, I have done many shows, working with several comedians from local to national level across the country, built a comedy scene not just for myself but many other aspiring comedians in the area and nominated for 2 different best comedian awards for 2024(Kansas City People’s Choice Awards Best Comedian, The Pitch Magazine Best of Kansas City Best Local Stand-up Comic). Of course, I’m doing this to build a better future for my children as well and hopefully something they can be proud to see when they are older and inspired to chase their dreams, but I don’t consider my journey over but more of just beginning.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I would say it’s had ups and downs, I’ve helped several comedians get their first opportunity to perform and many have been grateful but in all aspects of life, you’ll have people that will just take from you and it still not be enough for them but all and all, it’s been a beautiful ride so far and with Effort Meets Fate philosophy, I don’t plan on detouring from my goal.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I consider myself a little bit of everything, A professional, a businessman and an artist. I joke about being a comedian and accidental booking agent because I started my own shows and even production company through it. I originally made a Facebook post about wanting to put on a comedy show and a bar owner I know and became friends with said, “let’s do it here” and we hit the ground running(Keith Dudley and Rendezvous Bar). I now not only perform but I book other talents on local and national levels along with Host Open Mic Comedy for multiple locations in the area.
What does success mean to you?
I define success not by just promoting myself to newer heights but by my impact of helping others rise to newer heights as well.
