Today we’d like to introduce you to Linsey Morgan
Hi Linsey, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In February of 2023 I was a stay at home mom with a 5 yr old son who went to preschool and a 18 month old son at home with me. The idea for Linsey’s Laundry all started after I had conversations with my husband about what I was going to do when both kids were in school full-time, and how I would enter the workforce again after being out of it for 7 years. He suggested I find a part-time role to dip my foot back in the water.
I started looking into “gig” jobs, but I couldn’t do Instacart or Uber because I didn’t want my youngest son to be in the car seat for a long time. I Googled “side hustles for stay at home moms” and found an article title “Top 50 Side Hustles For Stay-At-Home Moms”. As I scanned through the list, I saw a company that hired people to pick up, wash, fold and deliver people’s laundry. I thought that was great idea because I actually like doing laundry.
I tried it for a a few months but eventually thought there had to be a better way to service my neighbors. Determined I could do it better on my own, I posted in my local mom’s Facebook group and asked if anyone was interested in having their laundry done for them and immediately got a ton of responses. Over the course of a weekend, I worked with my husband to create a business plan for my idea, business cards, yard signs, and got a website set up. Now I’m going on my third year in business and it’s continuing to grow. It’s so fun helping people and knowing my business is making a big difference in their day-to-day lives.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There have definitely been many struggles while starting my laundry business. With two young boys at home, it’s always difficult balancing being a present “mom” while juggling the demands of being a small business owner; this is something I am always trying to be better at. Another struggle is learning how to work “in” the business while also being disciplined to work “on” the business. In the beginning, I didn’t have that many customers so it was pretty easy to manage everything myself. But as the business has grown, I’ve had to bring on help so that I can serve more customers which has been a challenge!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Linsey’s Laundry is a personal laundry service in St. Louis that offers wash and fold laundry with free pickup and delivery. I’m most proud of how I started this business with no prior experience and it’s been a big success. I believe Linsey’s Laundry is becoming known as a small local business who cares deeply about providing great laundry service and its customers. The biggest thing that sets Linsey’s Laundry apart from other laundry companies is the personal aspect of my business. I’m not a commercial laundromat or dry cleaners, I’m a stay-at-home mom doing the laundry that treats every customer like they are my friend. I strive to build genuine relationships with every customer and go above and beyond to provide the best laundry service possible.
What’s next?
I’ve got big plans for the future! My vision is to employ other stay-at-home moms and provide them the same flexible working opportunity I was looking for. My goal is for moms in other parts of Saint Louis to service their local neighborhoods and communities. I enjoy getting to serve customers who are also parents at our kids schools, members of our church or friends from the park. It’s also very rewarding to see how something as simple as doing someone’s laundry can have a big impact on their lives in ways I never expected.
