Today we’d like to introduce you to Chloé Powell
Hi Chloé, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was a teen mom always had a go getter entrepreneurial spirit. In high school, I did hair every now and then but it wasn’t anything I ever considered making a career out of. After high school I began selling hair extensions, modeling, and exploring other opportunities. While working a night job at a hospital, missing out on my son’s events, struggling & not having the freedom that I wanted. I would hide out in the bathroom watching YouTube videos on how to make wigs. I was tender headed and didn’t like other stylists in my head so i decided to teach myself how to make wigs. My first wig was made in my mom’s living room using a dustpan with a long handle as a makeshift wig stand—because I couldn’t afford a proper one. Once I installed my first wig on myself, people started reaching out, asking me to do their hair too. I started taking clients in my mom’s living room, using fabric from the fabric store as a backdrop for photos. After a while, I realized I wanted to take my skills to the next level, so I enrolled in cosmetology school to learn more about coloring and cutting. In 2020, I graduated from Grabber School of Hair Design. Since then, I’ve completed numerous continuing education courses to refine my craft. Eventually, I decided to shift away from wig installations and developed a passion for working with natural hair. Now, I specialize in luxury hair care services, focusing on healthy vibrant hair and teaching other stylist how to master the skill that helped build my clientele & scale my business. My business is located in Creve Coeur, where my client base continues to grow.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
lol NO it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. from finding the right work space for me to work out of to getting a consistent client base has been so hard. I remember crying everyday because I would only have 1-2 clients a month and sometimes no clients at all. I would pray and ask god to bless me with a consistent clientele base because i wanted to help women have healthy natural hair so they could feel confident and beautiful when wearing their natural hair.
We’ve been impressed with Chloe Tresses , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in natural hair care, precision cutting, and luxury hair extension services focusing on creating healthy, beautiful hair for all hair textures, but I’m known for my silk press & trim service. My services are tailored to each individual client ,making sure they have a personalized luxury experience where beauty and care meet to enhance their hair goals. I offer expert guidance on everything from hair regimens, maintenance routines, to styling techniques. I offer a beginner friendly digital tutorial titled “The Perfect Silk Press,” designed to teach the everyday career woman, mom, diy girlie, college girls, & stylists of all levels the proper techniques for achieving a flawless silk press and trim so they can achieve the results they’ve always wanted.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
if you don’t take any risk, have faith and believe in yourself youll never know if what you want to do will work. you potentially miss out on the biggest breakthrough of your life all because you where scared to take THAT RISK…so in my opinion take the risk and don’t listen to anyone who isn’t or hasn’t done anything close to what your trying to do. I always take risk, scared and all. when i moved into my current suite that I worked out of now a year prior i saw the suites on social media and wished how i could afford a luxury space like that, the next year i moved out of my suite and moved into the luxury suites. At the time I only had 1-2 clients a month, I was terrified I wouldn’t be able to afford the rent but i prayed and asked god and I trusted that he would make a way for me to have provision and he has. That was one major risk I’ve taken but i take risk all the time because I refuse to be comfortable and complacent with the life I have when I KNOW I CAN and WILL have everything I want want.
