Today we’d like to introduce you to Lidene Muller
Hi Lidene, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the world of Image consulting began with a deep-rooted passion for style, color, and design. I’ve always found myself captivated by the way colors could completely transform an outfit or how a well-crafted design could make someone feel confident and empowered. I always played “dress-up” when I was a little girl, and loved wearing my mom’s high heels, necklaces and dresses.
It was as though clothing and colors were not just fabric and paint, but a way to express who we are, how we feel, and how we want the world to see us.
As I started exploring fashion more seriously, I realized that my natural instinct for understanding what works best for different people—whether it was through colors, silhouettes, or textures—was something I could harness professionally. I began studying color theory, learning about body shapes, and discovering how small details in design could make a big impact on a person’s overall appearance.
I wasn’t just drawn to trends—I was inspired by the timeless ways that style and design could highlight individual beauty, make a statement, or evoke a certain emotion. What fascinated me was how styling wasn’t only about looking good—it was about feeling your best, about self-expression, and empowering others through the choices they make in their wardrobes.
This passion led me to formally train as an Image Consultant, where I learned how to analyze clients’ personal styles, understand the theory and psychology of color, and create cohesive looks that fit not only their body types but also their lifestyles, personalities, and goals. I formally trained through the SA IMAGE ACADEMY INTERNATIONAL in Cape Town, South Africa. SA IMAGE ACADEMY INTERNATIONAL is an elite International Image Consultant training academy and I absolutely loved their training course and the program.
I am originally from South Africa, where I worked in Pharmaceutical Sales. In 2016 we relocated to Hong Kong for my husband’s job and in 2019 I decided to follow my dream and qualified as an Image Consultant. I started my business, COLOUR CONNECTION STYLING in Hong Kong, and was truly inspired by the world of fashion, style and color throughout our travels and journey.
I pour my passion, creativity and innovation into every single aspect of my business, and I match my modern approach with my goals to make my clients look and feel confident and beautiful.
Our family now resides in St Louis and I love living and working in St Louis!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It wasn’t a smooth road when I started the business. I started my business in January 2020 and I was so excited, but then Covid happened, and made it impossible for me to schedule client facing consultations. I had to make a plan, so I did a virtual course through the Style Core in California to launch my business online, and do virtual consultations. I also bought an amazing online color analysis and styling program through SA IMAGE ACADEMY and offered virtual consultations to clients. During Covid, I had to homeschool our twins for a while, and tried to focus on my new business. Looking back I’ve learned so much but it wasn’t easy. Trial and error, new ideas and hours of marketing kept me busy, trying to get clients to book consultations, and to generate recurring business. To start a business and build a brand takes time, hard work, dedication and long hours. Being a Mom of busy twins, starting a business and trying to navigate everything through Covid was sometimes challenging.
Building your brand and a solid client base takes time. Early on in my journey, attracting consistent clients and creating a strong reputation in the industry was a challenge.
The relationship between an image consultant and a client is built on trust. If a client doesn’t fully trust your expertise, they may not be open to your suggestions. Gaining trust, especially in a field where personal identity is involved, can take time and effort.
In 2022 we moved to St Louis, and it has been a great journey for me, working with amazing clients and, to do what I love and enjoy most! It’s an ongoing journey, and I feel very blessed to work here in St Louis.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the owner and founder of Colour Connection Styling. I am a qualified Image Consultant and I specialize in Color Analysis Consultations, where I assess which colors work best for a client’s skin tone, hair color, and eyes, and advise on what colors to wear for different occasions. I offer Personal Styling, where I help clients select clothing, accessories, and hairstyles that complement their body type, face shape, personality, and professional needs. So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is my clients! I love to help clients project a strong, confident, and authentic version of themselves, aligning their appearance with their personal or professional goals. Customer satisfaction is very important to me, and building strong relationships with my customers and understanding their needs matters most to me. Wearing the right colors and styles creates art and style, and it’s important to me that my clients feel empowered and excited about their new wardrobe, styles and colors according to their color season.
