Today we’d like to introduce you to Float Like A Buffalo.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
We started Float Like A Buffalo in 2014. We’ve gone through a few different lineups while finding the sound and group we wanted to grow with. The seven of us that we have now are super committed to bringing wonderful music and good times to people all over the world. We love sharing our talents and passions with as many people that will listen. We have worked very hard to coordinate our efforts into one shared goal, which is to play music for as many people as possible and provide joy to music lovers across the world.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Well, ya know, COVID and all. Haha. The road hasn’t always been smooth, but we have learned a lot from our struggles and have grown immensely through the trials and tribulations we have run into. During the lockdown last year, we started a “Yard Tour” where we went to different neighborhoods across Colorado and played music for people who needed it. We even reached out to the world-famous Red Rocks venue and put on two sold-out, socially distanced shows in October of 2020 when nobody thought there would be shows happening there. We feel that the work we did during COVID to keep our dreams alive has positioned us even closer to where we want to go with our music. We have found that when things look bleak, all it takes is a little ingenuity and creativity to bring smiles to faces.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We pretty much have created a new genre of music. We call it Ska-Funk-Reggae-Rock. It’s all based in Rock and Roll, with some heavy Funk, Ska, and Reggae influences. We feel that is what sets us apart from a lot of other bands. We have played shows with metal bands, traditional funk bands, ska bands, country/bluegrass bands and our music is always very well received by those music lovers. We don’t feel as though we fit into one genre. Every one of us has different music tastes and influences and we have found a way to meld all of that together into Float Like A Buffalo. Even our band name is different. But it’s fun, and that’s the kind of music that we try to make. We are very proud of our work ethic, and we try to make each show we play unique and fun, no matter how many times we have played.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Supporting is easy. Come to a show, buy some merch, stream us on your whatever music streaming platform you prefer. Interact with us on our Facebook and Instagram pages. We usually respond. We listen to our fans. If not for them, we wouldn’t be doing what we are doing. We also love to collaborate with other musicians and bands. We have had members of other bands play songs with us during our show sets, we have recorded music with special guests of other bands, and each of us has worked with other bands in some form over the years. We also try to see as many other bands as we possibly can to help grow the scene that we are so proud to be in. If anyone wants to collaborate with us or has ideas they think we could be good at, we always encourage people to reach out to our manager Sarah via our website, or email us at floatlikeabuffalomusic@gmail.com.
