Hi Deja, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve always been a person who was fascinated with the human body. Learning how interconnected it is and how it operates truly interested me and still does to this day. Whenever I am experiencing something strange, I immediately try to process what I am actually feeling (pain, nausea, inflammation), the location, and possible reasons for the flare-up. I do this because I am confident in my abilities to know when something is wrong with me and to seek medical help if it isn’t something I can fix myself. So when the pandemic hit, and I was experiencing drastic changes in my health, it was extremely hard for me to recover and come to the reality that even medical professionals could not cure any of my symptoms.
I felt so helpless and would cry everyday because of the amount of pain I was in, and it didn’t make it any better than my symptoms were getting passed off as anxiety. Then, one day I was scrolling on Instagram and saw a quote, “If you are not your own doctor, you are a fool.” by Hippocrates. So instead of feeling sorry for myself, I decided to do my own research and came across ginger and sea moss. Considering both these items possessed natural anti-inflammatory properties and the ability to boost/improve the immune system, I started drinking ginger & sea moss tea three times a day, every day, in hopes of a change. In addition to that, I changed my eating habits, began to exercise again, and meditated as much as I could to relieve stress and allowed God’s medicine to heal me. After being consistent and having faith, all my symptoms subsided, thanks to the sea moss I ate and drank on a daily basis. Because of that, I felt it was important for everyone to know and reap the health benefits of this superfood, which lead me to start selling it myself. My goal is to help influence people to take their health seriously enough to start making changes that will best fit their lifestyle and improve their quality of life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road for me BY FAR. Between getting extremely sick and realizing my job was affecting my health due to stress and not feeling fulfilled, it was very hard to know something wasn’t working. Feeling stuck between financial security and being happy was one of the hardest things I had to overcome because that mentality is very limiting and leaves little to no room for the Universe/God to bless you. I honestly struggled between quitting my job and staying because of that “rat race” mentality, and the universe decided to do what I couldn’t, leading me to where I am now.
Once I was free from the 9-5 shackles, I began trying to figure out the direction of my life, business, and long-term goals. And after a few weeks of trying to organize my life, it was apparent to me that working a 9-5 was a lot easier than taking on social media as a job and building a foundation for my business. But I refused to give up on my dreams no matter how sick, sleep-deprived or broke I was. It was also hard for me to switch my mentality from being a worker to an entrepreneur, but it did help that I had extremely supportive friends, family, and partners. In addition to having an amazing connection with the Universe/God, because since starting this journey, I have not been without. Anything I needed was always provided to me. So remember, if you don’t have faith in yourself, that your God-given skills will keep you afloat. How do you expect God to help you change your life? You must have faith in yourself and God to begin creating a new reality.

Remembrance Co. is a brand focused on enhancing one’s physical wellness, inside and out, through high-quality and organic products that will have you looking fabulous on both the inside and out. The organic/holistic products we offer is sea moss, dried and gel, as well as herbal yoni steams for women who want to naturally cleanse and reconnect with their womb. My goal as a brand is to reconnect every customer to their body and center. To be connected is to know and assess when something is off with you mentally, physically, or emotionally, narrow down your issues and begin working on alleviating imbalances. It is also disciplining yourself enough to choose health and wellness over low vibrational desires. No one is 100% perfect at doing this every day, but I at least want to encourage that type of behavior and provide products that will help.
What makes my brand different from others is it brand was created in turmoil and built through passion and love. I had no idea I would ever start selling sea moss or yoni steams. Shoot, I never thought I would connect so much with holistic medicine, but it took me being in a very deep and DARK place to reconnect with myself and remember what is most important to me. Health, wellness, and beauty are important to me. Although I love makeup, beauty goes beyond the exterior and I am more focused on internal beauty.
Any big plans?
In the near future, I plan to expand my brand and begin offering more wellness products. I intend on creating an herbal yoni oil and foam wash for our queens who would prefer a natural/organic product to cleanse their yoni with. Additionally, I want to offer more options for those who are interested in sea moss. Since taking sea moss in the gel form is somewhat hard and inconvenient for individuals, I would like to offer powder as well as vegan capsules for those on the go or for the people who do not drink smoothies on a regular.
That’s all I have so far, but I am sure I will come up with something else in the near future. But right now, I am enjoying the present and actively working at building a solid foundation for my brand. But I am looking forward to the overall growth of my business and the peace of mind financial freedom it will bring me.
