Meet Jason Berry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Berry.

Hi Jason, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My art journey started at the age of 13. I started my drawing hobby by recreating characters such as Looney toons and Flintstone’s characters. During my adolescence and young adulthood, I doodled and drawled for my own entertainment.

My drawing journey blossomed into my passion in 2015 when I was diagnosed with colon cancer. My terminally ill diagnosis put me in a downward swirling spiral of negative thoughts and emotions, which led to severe depression. When I was ready to give up on life, family and friends suggested I find a positive hobby that would help uplift my spirit. This is where my drawing kicked into full gear. I realized drawing was my outlet through the most difficult part of my life. My art brought healing and wholeness to my life. After years of drawing and painting for my own self-purposes, I decided that I should share my art with others. This decision started the creation of Jberry Designz.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey of becoming an artist has not been an easy road. The most difficult obstacle I have faced was finding opportunities to show my work to the local community. How did you overcome the obstacle? I overcame the obstacle by using online resources to find local vendor events where I can showcase my work. Attending these events as a vendor has given my business a certain level of exposure that I could not have done on just my own.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a graphic designer by trade but I am also a henna artist and painter. I absolutely love art so much that I am in everything that is creative. I specialize in graphic design work such as flyer design and logo creation, as well as Photoshop and Illustrator programs. The most thing I am proud of, besides being a cancer survivor, is that I was able to make my dreams into a reality. The one thing thats set me apart from others is my deep passion and love for art has never shifted through all my adversities.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice to my fellow artist would be to attend local art expos and exhibits and network with their fellow artists. I would encourage them to not be afraid to speak with people and show off their art. This way, your audience have a visual of your artwork and senses your creativity. Attending local art expos and vendor events has been the best networking technique for Jberry Designz. It allows us to display our artwork, meet local artists, and interact with our fan base.
