Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Julie Steinhauer.
Dr. Julie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I opened my first vision clinic in 2003, Jersey Family Vision Care, where we offered comprehensive vision services, including glasses and my specialty, Vision Therapy. By 2010, I was getting tired of the day-to-day disease management I had slipped into at my practice. In 2011, I determined to close the doors on the clinic and open a Vision Therapy and Rehabilitative Vision Clinic only and in 2012, Vision For Life opened in Glen Carbon.
Since being at this location, we have doubled our office size and multiplied many times over the volume of patients we see in a year. We are so tremendously blessed to be able to help patients from all over the world have better vision. Recently, we made a slight alteration to our name and became Vision For Life & Success to embody what we offer our patients. We are a Functional Vision and Vision Rehabilitation Clinic offering services for conditions ranging from Binocular Vision Disorders, Strabismus, Amblyopia, Traumatic Brain Injury associated vision problems, Stroke and vision loss and much more.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is business ever a smooth road? haha. Definitely not, as there have been many challenges along the way and ups and downs. Moving the clinic, renaming and focusing on my passion of Functional Vision and Rehabilitative Vision has been the best decision I ever made. It’s a joy going to work knowing what a difference we are making in people’s lives, even with the ups and downs that can occur in business.
Some of our typical struggles have been expansion, infrastructure, finances, employees… you name it! But over the years, we have grown tremendously and we have a fabulous team that is growing currently to meet the needs of our patients. For about two years now, we have also offered coaching and mentoring services to other doctors who want to have their own dream clinic and I produce courses for training in specific treatment protocols for doctors to learn how to apply in their own practice.
We’ve been impressed with Vision For Life & Success, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Vision For Life & Success is a Functional Vision and Binocular Vision Clinic focused on providing vision therapy, which is like physical therapy for the brain and eyes, for anyone who could benefit from our services. We offer vision services for learning-related vision problems, binocular vision disorders (ex: strabismus, amblyopia, convergence insufficiency), sports vision, stress-related vision problems, developmental vision, neuro-optometric rehabilitation, and special populations.
We are most known for utilizing Syntonic Phototherapy or Light Therapy with our Vision Therapy Program. We offer programs tailored to the needs of patients of every age range from infancy through our elderly population. No one is too old or too young to experience vision improvement.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t really believe in luck. I believe in working efficiently in my calling or purpose and moving forward always with unwavering faith. Understanding that when we do this, amazing things happen-doors open and pathways reveal themselves. We simply need to be willing to shift over time with the energetically right opportunities that present to us.
