Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Kellogg.
Hi Kristen, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my career as a filmmaker producing marketing films in 2010 on the tiny island of Nantucket. The business I created eventually led me to travel around the world creating destination marketing videos for places like Visit Norway, Visit Jordan, Visit Panama, and lifestyle marketing content for luxury hotels and also brands like Rosetta Stone and Skype. I loved what I did but I was working non-stop. After what felt like I was slowly running myself into the ground for 7 years, two years prior I’d ended up in the hospital twice. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I didn’t have answers as to why I had been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and a plethora of ongoing developing symptoms like ovarian cysts, eczema.
I had had enough and sought the help of a prevention and healing doctor in St. Louis who practiced functional medicine. What no one could tell me in 2 years, he identified some of the root causes of my issues within our hour-long session. This began my journey back to me.
When the pandemic hit, I was finally able to hit pause, slow down and take a deeper look at my life. And I finally caved to the call I had been feeling to go back to school and study integrative nutrition and functional medicine to help others gain back their health and operate at their optimal.
I learned how to continue to heal my own body. And I thought I want to teach others how to do this too. The earth and our health are connected. And I try to help people to get healthy while reconnecting with their authentic self along the way.
Living in good health isn’t a given and it’s not a destination — it’s a lifestyle that we have to choose.
I am grateful today to be able to dabble in all of my passions rooted in storytelling — from the films I create to the trips I design for travel clients and also empowering my health coaching clients in my group program at Mapped Wellness.
Detox Your Life is a 90-day program where I help people do just that. It’s one I developed after experimenting on myself and having all of my symptoms disappear. And I am so grateful to empower other high achievers to do the same so they can do the work they love and not let their health fall to the waist side. Without sacrificing their health.
I think a lot of people don’t realize that you can actually reverse chronic disease — autoimmune disease being one of those things. It may take some time and definitely involves lifestyle changes but it doesn’t have to take forever.
And now I am grateful to share my time between St. Louis and Mexico City. When in St. Louis I am grateful to bring back what the world has taught me back to my home region through marketing education for small business owners through my creative agency, Border Free Media. And at Mapped Wellness, help people get back to the core of who they are through rebalancing their bodies so they can achieve whatever it is they want in life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think the biggest struggle is that I am passionate about so many things from travel to impacting local communities — I guess all of the work I do at the end of the day goes back to the one question — how am I helping people? And that is how I decide whether or not a project could be right for me. From there, I ask myself, do I have the full capacity and energy to give to this project available right now? Those are the biggest indicators that allow me to do work that makes a difference and also lights me up — and it doesn’t take away from my health.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the founder of two companies (Border Free Media + Mapped Wellness) and partner at a third (Salt & Wind Travel).
I have a deep background in storytelling — I tell stories as a filmmaker at Border Free Media and also help small business owners through our course IMPACT Video Marketing so they can create their own long-term video marketing strategy for their businesses. At Salt & Wind Travel, I help create one-of-a-kind trips for our clients traveling to Mexico that impact local economy — we always weave in the storytelling element to these trips. We also curate a few small group trips a year — this year Oaxaca City for Día de Muertos. And at Mapped Wellness, I am able to take everything I have learned about wellness and decipher that into stories my clients can resonate with in order to empower them to rebalance their bodies.
I am really proud of all the work I do. Whether I’m helping a brand who is doing great work increase their revenue and create more impact in the world through their product or service, helping some get healthy so they can have a better life, or helping connect travelers with individuals in communities and increasing their local income.
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I am most certainly a risk-taker. Because without the risk, you just don’t know what is possible. It really takes a lot of believing in yourself. And if I fail, I reframe into a learning experience. You can’t do everything right all the time. And if you are? Then you aren’t taking any risk.
