Rising Stars: Meet Kuro Blackk

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kuro Blackk.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Photography has always been a part of my life my mom would take pictures of nature and it always inspired me. Once I became an adult I decided to get back into photography so I bought a camera and began my journey. I started off doing portraits, landscapes, and nature photography but quickly got more into fashion.

I began to look more into the fashion scene and met one of my friends now AK Brown who is a big part of the fashion scene here in STL. So she gave me an opportunity to photograph a project for her and helped me get my first publishing in STL MAG.

So far things have been going well people have even begun to recognize me from my work, so I’m grateful for all the opportunities I have been presented with.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been quite challenging because I had to teach myself photography again with what each setting means on the camera the focal lengths different kinds of lenses and what they do.

It was even difficult to get clients because I wasn’t as confident as I am now nor was I big on talking to people I even felt I lacked skills in photography so I wouldn’t really try to book with ppl. I kinda just kept to the back with my head down.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a photographer who specializes in fashion and editorial photography. Best known for just being a great photographer lol. I’m proud of just being a black photographer who helps create immortality for the people I do shoots with its just another feeling seeing that you created art that can last for literally an eternity.

I just feel my dreams, goals, and determination set me apart from other STL artists, and believe me there are some amazing artists here in STL I just feel my confidence and determination will take me where I wanna be.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Within the next 2 to 3 years, I plan on doing projects with either June Ambrose or Will Smith. So when things go well I’ll be visiting New York and California a lot. Maybe even some overseas traveling for fashion.
