Today we’d like to introduce you to Joshua Lakes.
Joshua, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always knew I could sing and writing always came naturally to me but I just never really took the time to try to do much with it. But over the years It started to feel Inevitable. I had taught myself to play keyboard and guitar and from there I started performing. I saw success. then I bought a bunch of studio equipment and taught myself how to use it, next thing you know I was creating my own music.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely anything but smooth. The thing about being self-taught is you’re learning from a bunch of mistakes. I was frustrating learning the software learning to sing and play instruments and gaining muscle memory, developing my sound, and growing as an entertainer. Then to be able to monetize it all into a business may be the hardest thing
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a music artist. Recording and performing. A versatile musician also recording and performing. I specialize in the RnB/hip hop genre. I also produce and engineer as well. Not sure what I known for, hopefully being great. But I’m most proud of my perseverance and will to consistently grow. I feel like I continue to get better day-to-day.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very reserved that hasn’t really changed. I wasn’t really into music much aside from rap and hip hop. In fact, Hip hop actually inspired my first hustle early on Maybe age 12 or 13, I used to download free music online to burn CDs and sell them at school. I even tried rapping at some point back then. But mainly I was heavily into sports. By the time I got to high school, I was a year-round athlete with football, basketball, and track. I was sure that I would have a career in athletics in some way shape or form.
