Today we’d like to introduce you to Charles Brooks Jr.
Hi Charles, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
Well, I was born and raised on the north side of St. Louis. Both my mom and dad side of the family is hilarious. So, comedy has always been around me. At the age of 8 years old I snuck in the basement and watched this movie my mom and aunt was quoting. The movie was “Eddie Murphy Delirious”. Me as a kid witnessing Eddie create happiness and laughter, also created my passion for comedy. And ever since being a stand up comedian is all wanted to be. I went to high school at Lindbergh High School Which to me was my master class for my comedy. It was very culturally diverse It’s really where I pull most of my comedy from, there’s a lot of amazingly different people that I met my years in school and they all helped me understand everyone has a point of view, and in comedy touching on people’s life experience gets the best reaction. I’ve been on this comedy grind for 3 years and stopping cannot be an option. My ultimate goal is to sell out Bush Statium. And I will do it! Just Stay tinned!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road to become a successful comedian has been dope(amazing)! However, comedy is an art form that takes a lot of hours, dedication, and consistency to perfect. And that for all comics, I believe that’s the true challenge. But I grew to learn the hardest challenges comes with the greatest rewards. And that’s what keeps me motivated
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Husband, Father, comedian/actor. I take pride in all of the above. My specialty is Truth. My comedy has very little opinion and is mostly based on my facts and real-life experiences. I’m known for being the cool guy, the laid-back fellow but those that know me they would describe me as goofy, smart, and charismatic. The thing I’m most proud of is knowing that giving up is always an option, but that’s an option I will never take. And what sets me apart from others is my respect and understanding for people young and old. I respect the fact that everyone is entitled to their opinions and understanding that said opinion will never 100 percent add up to my own. And in that, I realized that’s what we all have in common. Opinion. I would just hope that my audience has the same opinion as me.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If someone is interested in starting comedy, I could only tell them what the people I look up to told me. When I met D.L Hughley he said it’s really only two thing about comedy and that’s to first be funny and second be consistent. And Comedians Tommy Dangerfield and Larry Green of St. Louis gave me the same great advice and that’s to always always always be yourself. They come to laugh, make them!
