Today we’d like to introduce you to Matt Wolff.
Hi Matt, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Around 2012-2013, I wanted to start sharing my music with more people, and then my brother (Jordan “bear” Bailey) and I started performing A LOT. In that long time grinding through the local scene, we really found our sound as Double F. Gang. We began to gain recognition as “The Most Lit Duo in The Lou” opening for national acts such as Ej Carter, Riff Raff, Ces Cru, Xavier Wulf, and we were even on the road to Pointfest.
At the start of 2019, I came to a realization that not only do I love being at events and putting events together but my real passion is putting people in a position to win. St. Louis has so many amazing local artists that just don’t get the time of day. And it’s very frustrating in my opinion. So with the help of various promoters that I worked with within the many years of being an artist, I finally got the urge to jump in headfirst and start my very own promotion company called “Trap24.”
I then would go on to putting together countless amazing shows at venues like The Spot Sports Bar, Blankspace, The Monocle, Misty Nights, Fubar, Red Flag, Pops Nightclub, The OZ, Diamond Music Hall, and many more. At some point, it all came to a tremendous halt because of the coronavirus. Which completely crippled everything that I was doing/ planning on doing but I stayed resilient , kept my head down, and learned/planned my next move once the pandemic was over. During that time I ended up working two jobs one as an electrician in the day and the other a janitor on the night shift.
Shortly after things began to open up and jumped right back in like I never left doing weekly events and working my two jobs at the same time. Needless to say, I was very busy. I barely had time for my fiancé and kids. I soon realized that if I really wanted to make my company (Trap24) sustainable then I would need to focus all of my time and energy on it.
So I put my two weeks in at both jobs and continued to put my best foot forward and then a little bit later down the line Travis Corley from agitate the airwaves approached me about merging our talents to form a media marketing company called Transcendent Media Group and we’ve been grinding ever since!
When I started Trap24, it really helped me find my purpose in life. I love being on stage and performing as double F. Gang but I always felt like my life lacked substance until I started realizing my worth and bossing up.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The pandemic. balancing my time between my 9-5, my dreams, and my wife and kids. People taking me seriously, and egos in the local music scene.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I run and own Trap24 promotions and under that I scout artists and book shows/events normally just hip-hop but I’ve had my hands in comedy events and some rock shows as well.
I think people gravitate towards my shows because all of the artists I book on the events and the event as a whole flows really well it’s always a fun and safe time when it’s a Trap24 production.
Also, I co-own a transcendent media group with Travis Corley and that’s the real nitty-gritty of helping a local artist rise from nothing I feel like everything I’m doing now I’m supposed to be doing, and now it’s my job to grow it into something no ones have ever seen before.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking?
Yeah definitely, the biggest risk I’ve taken was putting my two weeks in at my jobs to really focus on this stuff and actually make it work and not flop.
