Hi Carlan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started getting into makeup when I was a freshman in high school. I use to binge-watch makeup videos on YouTube for hours when I got home from school. I studied their techniques and admired the precision of it all. Seeing the different colors of eyeshadow and products they used was so appeasing to my heart and mind. I also enjoyed watching YouTube for entertainment as well. Watching ordinary folks be themselves on camera, while people gave positive feedback to the creators for the original content, they uploaded truly inspired me. My two worlds collided, and I then realized that I could manifest both into my reality.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I will say that the journey is never a smooth ride, but it is in the journey that you gain the most satisfaction rather than the destination. I don’t think the road was meant to be easy. Sometimes I create makeup looks on myself and don’t post them because I didn’t execute a technique well enough to my liking. Other times I try recording YouTube videos and cut out certain footage because I’m too tense and hyper-aware of every little thing I do that it shows on camera. Despite my flesh, I’ve accepted that life itself is a concept of both struggles and successes. You live, you learn, you grow. You are bound to make mistakes along the way. The key is to analyze your shortcomings and use them to allow your true self to shine in the forefront. Who you are at the core that is. I show gratitude to the challenges and obstacles that come my way because they are simply steps to the tiers of victory.

I’m noticed for my creative nature, and passion for what I love. I affirm that I am a multi-talented creator and artist. A jack of all trades as they say. I have my own business, Facetime by Carlan as a self-taught makeup artist where I currently reside in the St. Louis Area. I have a booking site as well, https://facetimebycarlan.as.me/ I sell top-quality mink lashes on my online store for a very affordable price. I am also a YouTuber/Content Creator. My channel name is Ei Dirtii . I post vlogs, challenges, beauty content, and more. I post on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok all @Ei Dirtii. I am most proud of the confidence I have to be myself and exude the God in me to all of those I touch through my experiences and knowledge that I have within me. There is only one Carlan in the world. There will never be another. I take pride in that as I feel everyone should. My originality is divine. I don’t have to do anything else but continue to grow into the best version of self that I can be.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Some people may not understand the meaning of my name on all my social media platforms. Ei is my nickname that I was given by my sister at a very young age. The story is that I used to always sing the childhood nursery rhyme Old McDonald had a farm Ei-Ei-O. Apparently, the only line that I mastered was the Ei-Ei-O part! So, she decided to start calling me Ei. So, my entire family calls me by my nickname more than Carlan. Both have extreme significance so I use them interchangeably. My first name is Carlan. I was named after my dad whose name is Carl. He transcended 2 years ago. He is my superhero (Superman). I am truly proud to be his daughter. He was and is the best father I could have ever had. I love him dearly from the core of my soul.
