Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalen Lee.
Hi Jalen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I got started from just experimenting and finding out what I actually like to do from just being under family members and after that just being on my own trying to just find my craft in some form of way. I didn’t find my craft till I went away to school. I am attending and will be graduating this Spring with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts with an emphasis on Photography with a Minor in Art History and a Second Minor in Visual Communications and Design. I got to where I am today from just learning from other photographers and seeking guidance to help not only improve my craft in the art field but from just being open to learn and going step by step to just help make me a better artist overall.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Some days are better than others but we all are built to stay strong and never let you foot off the gas pedal. Yes, my journey has been a struggle from the start but I always was able to never stop at what you love to do. I love to create and I won’t stop creating until I say I am done.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a photography-based artist where I like to help tell a story in some form of fashion. From the good to the bad and more so the architectural side as well. I consider myself a street photographer mainly because I love to go out and walk around and capture what I see on a day-to-day basis and just everyone in a sense be able to see what I see and relate to what I see as well.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was little more on the shy side. I like to stick to myself majority of the time but I was open to meeting and having new friends and just building a lot of connections and just being a helpful person to everyone. I was more of a sports kid, playing basketball and baseball as a young kid and exploring the city being able to find what I love to do first before I got a little older.
