Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Farr.
Hi Kayla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, back in October is where my story started! I had a bad miscarriage around the middle of October and it took me by surprise as I had, had two previous children with no problem. It hit me very hard with it being my first miscarriage to ever experience. Shortly after physically recovering it was time too mentally recover. My spouse had bought me some cocoa bomb molds at the time and I had found something to spend time doing while recovering. One day made a dozen or so and took them to a family event. Days later, I had posted them in a group on Facebook and it blew up. By the end of December, I had sold over 20 dozen cocoa bombs!!! My spouse and I were in SHOCK. I knew I was on to something.
By the beginning of January is when I started Moonchild Made Bakes & Confections and by February I was able to quit my 9-5 and take it on full time! I started to teach myself how to make cakes, cupcakes, cake pops, etc. It was something that I loved and grew to cherish as it made me extremely happy! I quickly grew my following and made sure to reach out to every single person I could to spread the word about my business. I am blessed to say that within 3 short months we have accomplished and exceeded our goals as business owners. It started as something so terrible but wound up literally being my rainbow at the end of the storm. I would have never been able to do what I am doing now if it wasn’t for that tough time in my life. It pushed me to be the best me I could and drove me more than anything ever had. It gave me that sense of purpose that I had lost through the years of having children. I know a lot of moms that have experienced this within their lifetime as well who can relate. My main purpose in this business is to let other moms know they are not alone and that even when we go through hard times know that you are stronger than you think! We are unstoppable when we have that confidence in us! I feel as if my purpose in life now is to make people yummy desserts and also show how much you can truly accomplish as a mom of two I promise its possible! Use those hard times and turn them into your own rainbow at the end of the storm.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I would say it’s gone smooth but just like any other business owner, I have had my downs as well. I ran into not being knowledgeable on what to charge for things in the beginning. Which eventually became an issue we had to address real quickly because we wanted to be able to make an income off of what we were doing. I also am a very empathic person and it was a struggle in the beginning and I was more concerned about what price, etc that was best for the customer rather than myself or even the business.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So yes I would consider myself an artist. I always loved make up, art, etc. Baking was quite honestly far from the path I thought I saw for my future but it quite literally landed in my lap. I couldn’t be more happy I found this passion.
I specialize in customizing orders, cakes, buttercream, and detailing. I am known I think mostly for my delicious cakes/ cake pops and my customized strawberries.
I am most proud of the time and excellence I have put in over the last couple of months to make this business the best it can be and be proud of myself and to give myself purpose.
I believe what sets me apart from others is my drive and my outgoing personality. I am someone who strives always to be the best me I can be at all times. We all have our ups and downs but I ALWAYS try to have more ups than downs.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I believe that my drive and hard work is something I take pride in. Also being able to push through the bad moments. I believe those bad moments in life are setting us up for the most successful times in our life. It pushes us and even makes us doubt ourselves but that’s when I find that it helps the most for my success.
