Daily Inspiration: Meet Angela Hall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Hall.

Hi Angela, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Well my story started like this. My family and I have always decorated in some form or fashion for holidays and birthdays. I used balloons but not to the extent that I do today. At the time, I didn’t even know one could be so creative with balloons or that they came in all different shapes, colors and sizes.

So in the year 2021, my family and I threw my younger sister a surprise birthday party. It was a Movie Theme for outside, in which we setup with lawn chairs fake grass and a movie on a projector. Sort of like an outside movie theater. King Kong vs Godzilla was the movie of choice. I wanted to do something special for her because she was always a giver, very nice, and has been there for not only me but all her family family when in need.

So I looked up some videos on YT on how to decorate for a movie party and ran across a video for a balloon garland… I watched a few videos ordered some balloons from Amazon for my party theme and attempted to make a garland the night before. I didn’t have half the knowledge I have now about the oxidation of balloons, color matching, design or how to attach a garland to a back drop.

My daughter and I made some DIY projects to go with the theme and I also bought some plain cupcakes from Sam’s and decorated them with the party theme of choi cupcake toppers. I had no clue what I was doing as far as balloons. It was windy that day and I was trying my best to secure the movie theme backdrop and balloons to the backdrop frame I had, which was not sturdy for outdoor use. To make a long story short, the setup was beautiful and my sister loved it. I took pictures, posted them to FB, and tagged her.

She got an inquiry from a friend to book me for their kid’s party. Unbeknownst to me, I asked my sister “so when did I become an event decorator?” I wondered to myself could I do this. I was nervous. I came up with the name “ThemeDezignz” because every outing I decorated for with the family was always some type of theme for a holiday or a birthday. From that day forward I just started watching more videos learning more and more and to this day still watch hours of YT videos about balloons and have joined balloon decorator groups on FB.

I have always been creative. I love to make things beautiful. I have always been a self-learner since I was a child. I taught myself to play the keyboard and drawback back in the day. I wrote poems. I’ve taught myself to install a dishwasher, braid hair, install flooring, repair a clothes dryer, and so on. So event decorating was inevitable as it was self taught and allows me to create and come up with new ideas and ways of doing things. This is not just a hobby to me. It is a passion. I’m always creating in my mind, thinking of the next setup I can create for my portfolio.

Balloons can be expensive and time-consuming and I have a full-time job. I spend a lot of money buying equipment and covering costs for balloons and other decorative items so I can practice and make my portfolio to showcase and draw in more customers. The pictures do my work no justice. My family and friends have been my biggest supporters and return customers.

My future goal is to open up my own event space and provide services for those with all income levels to afford my prices. Atleast that is the vision for now. Pricing in the balloon industry is very tricky. People have to realize balloons are a luxury. Decorating for an event to make it memorable costs and you can’t put a price on memorable moments.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road as I have to spend my own money to build a portfolio until the clientele starts flowing in. It’s hard with the social media advertising and my small following.

Paying for Ads on social media is not very effective unless you invest a lot of money and time into it. I do become discouraged and have wanted to give up many times but I can never stop what I love doing. Very few people find something they are good at.

But I just stay consistent.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I like to call myself an Event Decorator. I decorate for all occasions. I mostly do backdrop setups which can include curtains banners neon signs treat tables etc, I also do balloon bouquet’s for special occasions.

I’ve done more balloon bouquets than party decorations because that’s what I started off doing. I am proud of how far I have come with balloons. I am amazed at how creative I can get with them. I put thought and time into my designs. If I am not happy with it I will change it until I am. What sets me apart from others is this is not just another form of income for me or a hobby.

It’s a passion and I try to design around my clients ‘ personalities and their likes. I take their vision and turn it into a beautiful reality.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can just share my work and or book me for their events. I like to say you may not need my services but maybe someone you know do. I can be found on social media. TikTok @themeddezignz, FB: ThemeDezignz Event Decor, and IG ThemeDezignz.
