Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Scott .
Hi Mary, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started writing when I was 13 years old. It started while I was on the road with my mom and stepdad. He was a truck driver. I had written about 7 books handwritten back in high school; I had a book contract with Silhouettes publishing at the age of 16. I wasn’t able to accept it at the time. I’ve had so many opportunities at a young age and lost them. I was faced with a lot of traumatic events that prevented me from doing anything. It took me a great deal of time to recover. I had lost ten years of my life and fought hard to escape an abusive marriage. After my recovery, I began writing again. Eventually, I started self-publishing my work.
Then in 2017, I got signed with a publishing company, Austin Macauley Publisher. However, back in high school, I was also involved in acting and got a partial scholarship to Juilliard. Of course, I couldn’t go. I began acting on tv shows and movies in 2013. I’ve appeared on Chicago Fire, Chicago PD, Nashville, Easy, Sirens, and Empire. There’s more that I’ve done, and I’m currently working on my third book and a few movie scripts. I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to do what I love. I’ve been faced with many struggles, but I’ve never given up. I’ve written a short mini-movie called Silver Lake, which is on hold until we get all casting together. I’m also planning to have my story written and told one day. I survived a very horrific abusive relationship. I lost ten years of my life from 1998-2008 and almost 10 years to fully recover. I was misdiagnosed by a doctor who cost me time I’ll never get back. That’s another story. Lastly, I’m in a web series called A Glitch in the Matrix, which will be released on July 4th at midnight on YouTube. I’ve overcome so much in my life, and I’m very blessed to be able to do what I love.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I worked in Security for over 10 years and finally decided to work for myself. I’m working for Boar’s Head currently. I’m most proud of my accomplishments. Especially when you fight demons, negative people who told you that you’d never get anywhere. I’ve lived almost everywhere and finally got to go to Mexico.
Had we loved to hear about any fond memories you have from growing up?
I don’t have any as my childhood wasn’t the greatest. Though, I’d have to say going to Disney World and Graceland.
One of my best childhood memories was discovering the love of writing stories and performing on stage.
