Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia López.
Hi Julia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My love and interest in photography started with my father, something I can still connect with despite losing him when I was young. I find photography (and, in recent years – videography) to provide an avenue to direct some of my thoughts, aspirations, frustrations, and everything in between. I consistently pursue the relationship between the built environment, nature, and how we hold relationships in these spaces while reconciling the historical context of the space we find ourselves in. My artwork speaks to the living and the forgotten environments.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a queer, 1st generation Latina and experiencing life in various ways has helped shape my work, while it has not always been easy. The challenge has always felt like do I “fit” in this visual artistry space. I often reconcile my wants and needs with societal expectations about the identities I hold. Feeling that I sometimes fit in so many places and nowhere at the same time.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I named my business (angelfallscreative) after the tallest, uninterrupted waterfall in the world- Angel Falls (Salto Ángel in Spanish)– which is in Venezuela and where my family lives. I want to pay tribute to an important place in my life, where I feel most at home, and this is one way to see that through.

I am a licensed clinical social worker and public health professional with a Ph.D. These multidimensional aspects of my life help me decide on my subjects, how I visualize certain pieces, the relationships between significant moments, and the candid, natural beauty surrounding us every day.
