Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaim Phenomenon.
Hi Chaim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I don’t look like what I’ve been through. Inasmuch, knowing that where there’s a will there’s a way, I try to focus on positivity and solutions. I grew up in the inner city of Saint Louis, MO. Music has always been a part of my life, It’s healing for me, and one of my favorite ways to express myself. Growing up as far as music goes I played the drums and sang in the church choir. Also, I played the trumpet and french horn in one of my high school’s orchestras and performed poems/raps for my family every blue moon.
Although I’ve been heavily influenced by gospel and Hip-Hop I’ve never really fit the mold and neither does my music, if asked my favorite genre I’ll always reply “good music”. I’ve had an on-and-off relationship with creating music since I was 14 I started recording raps and would producing beats that I would never release and lost all my content due to a broken and forgotten laptop. I started taking music seriously in 2019 and began releasing songs a month after graduating college in 2021 with my debut single “Can’t Be” featuring my brother Marx and I haven’t looked back ever since. I started working with a phenomenal producer by the name of JSHB to continue to develop my sound in early 2022.
Having creatives like Marx and JSHB has really helped me grow as an artist. To say the least, I’ve met some great people and dope artists along the way. Honestly, God has really carried me throughout life and especially in this process. As an engineer, entrepreneur, & artist time never seems to be enough and most assume I have it all together but really I just trust God through the ups and downs, keep taking action, and take every day one step at a time while reflecting on the good and the bad in hopes to learn and grow. My music reflects that.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Smooth road, no. It’s been a wonderful journey though. Man, thank God I don’t look like what I’ve been through – adversity after another it seems like the list is so long. I try not to harp or think about my struggles for too long but reflecting on some of the most impactful struggles I’ve dealt with I would say the struggles of self. I’ve struggled with myself in many ways. Sometimes I’m overly critical of myself, I’ve overextended myself many times for others, and I’ve broken promises to myself.
While that may not seem like much, a lot of obstacles have stemmed from this behavior, and when I look at it that way I feel as though I have the power to affect or change my situation. It’s like an ongoing battle with self where the blame and responsibility fall on me. While I accept the challenge and constantly seek ways to improve some days are better than others and just finding balance and staying there is an ongoing uphill journey.
Although, I’m just getting started as an artist just releasing music was one of the biggest struggles of all. Yes, people and circumstances always arise and present adversities get in the way, but conquering self and getting started has been the biggest of all.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My passion is creating, one of my favorite ways of doing that is through music. My style can be characterized by melodic flow, Soul, and R&B. However, often my sound falls into a realm of its own which I typically label as life music because that’s where my inspiration comes from and there’s really no one way I approach a song or limitations to what I could create during a track, it’s just me and the music. I’m most proud of getting back to producing music. Also, I recently released my 1st ever music video to a song called “OVERCOME” which really feels surreal.
In the meantime, have been working on my debut album, and let’s just say I’m extremely excited about every track.
I’ve progressed and continue to learn as I strive to create at a high level to express myself and be a resource.
Sometimes it feels like there’s so much going on in my head and the ability to translate that idea and bring it to life feels like God sent. I’m known for overcoming and being a phenomenon. Talented in many ways, applying the technical skills I’ve gained from engineering to everyday life, seeing the world from a glass-half-full perspective, and expressing my energy in the universe through creativity.
I believe we all are phenomenons in many ways, we just have to see it in ourselves that often times it is not that we are unable or have to do “this or that” but we can do “this, that, and more”, we just have to believe in ourselves, take action, and let go of the things in life that don’t serve our purpose.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love our city’s hustle, while often overlooked I believe we produce some of the hardest working creative people on the earth. Regardless of your profession If you came out of St. Louis you most likely got it out of the mud and worked blood, sweat, and tears to achieve what you’ve accomplished.
Not to mention we have some of the best food to offer. Sadly, on the flip side, I hate the violence and “crab in a bucket” mentality I’ve seen in my hometown. While sometimes we get an unjust reputation as a city, there’s definitely a need for accountability and things that we need to address as a community to heal, grow and prosper.
Saint, Louis is up next! I believe those things are taking place slowly but surely…
