Conversations with Rachel Boxdorfer

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Boxdorfer.

Hi Rachel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve worked in real estate for twenty years, a perfect fit for my marketing and promotions background and my love of St. Louis! Having worked in the not-for-profit sector and then in both radio and television doing sales promotions, I was encouraged by a friend to get my real estate license. I figured out why not, and it exploded on many levels. I quickly fell in love with the business, helping people find the perfect place to put down roots and educating them about our city. While agents are often tied to larger companies, we are a grassroots business; clients follow their agents to work with them. I love that my business has grown, having formed the Boxdorfer Springer Team in 2020 with my business partner, William Springer. We can help people with all aspects of real estate, first time home buyers to luxury properties, investment properties, and people downsizing. Real estate can be intimidating, and we pride ourselves on guiding our clients through the process and making it easier. Out-of-town clients are entertaining because we get to show off and introduce them to all our city has to offer. But often, we do that with clients who have lived here too. We are so fortunate to live in this city, and we should all also find ways to give back. I try to do my part through various charities or community involvement.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think any business person has struggles. I think some of the biggest challenges in my life came from trying to do it all. I am a mother of three, caring for aging parents (now deceased), running a small business, and being involved in some charities, which I feel strongly about, as I mentioned. I was raised to give back to my community. My parents were always interested in various events or activities in our community and scouting, and they instilled that in their children. I am the youngest of five kids, and we all have continued the tradition of giving back where we can. But making all of that fit in your life is tough. There’s never enough time. I like the saying, ask a busy person if you need something done. There is a lot to be said about that.

Some of my passions have included but are not limited to. Pedal the Cause (I co-captain a team with my husband). The Angel Band Project (I assist with fundraising), scouting (I was a Girl Scout leader for both my daughter and den mother for my son’s Cub Scouts. I’m still registered with both organizations and serve on a Boy Scout Troop Committee). And I’ve been involved on several levels in my neighborhood, Skinker DeBaliviere. I’m a former board member and executive committee member and am currently serving on the Porchfest STL committee, which is run through and in our neighborhood. I’m pretty passionate about all of it! I guess you could say I am a sucker for a worthy cause. It keeps me busy, and that can be my biggest challenge. You never want to spread yourself too thin.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The “Five Star” rating has recognized me for seventeen years, and my partner (who is younger than me) has also been recognized. As mentioned earlier, my partner Will Springer and I formed the Boxdorfer Springer Team in 2020. It enables us to offer even better service to our clients in a business that genuinely takes place 24/7, and real estate is constant, with deals and negotiations happening at all hours. Even with the pandemic hitting, we were swamped and pride ourselves on excellent customer service.

Forming our partnership allows us to offer our clients the best service with a wide range of specialties. But it also creates the ability to have a better work/life balance, something that is incredibly important in something like real estate. Your life gets interrupted in our business, and your friends and family often learn to deal with it. But there are times you need to be able to step away, and having a solid team and partnership allows us to do that. It’s also a great support in brainstorming issues, etc. We’ve been fortunate and rank in the top 1% of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices agents, but I think of our team as a small business, and we market accordingly. Clients are more attached to the agent than the firm, so we are a small business.

My partner Will also embraces my attitude of giving back. We try to sponsor some charities, and we spearheaded a food drive in the early days of the pandemic with our other office agents, donating the food to St. Louis Area Foodbank. I’m thrilled at how positively it was embraced by other agents in our office, too, and it’s become an annual event. I love when you get a group of people together and everyone pitches in, maybe doing just a little, but the results can be tremendous.

Okay – I think I’m off-topic here! I told you. I love selling real estate. I love St. Louis, and I love giving back!

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Jumping back to real estate, work with other agents. Talk to them. See what works and what doesn’t for different agents. We all have our style. Networking in any field is so important. And to anyone with talent and abilities of any sort, as you become able, whether it is your time, talent or treasure, give back. Find something you believe in and get involved. When your kids go to school, jump in and volunteer. You will never regret it.
