Hi Bill, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to introduce yourself.
I retired from a remarkable career as an attorney to open another business that was 180 degrees different from practicing law. I had been an avid cyclist, but my knees couldn’t endure a long ride due to arthritis. Following 2 partial knee replacements, friends encouraged my wife and me to try a Pedego Electric bike while on vacation in Colorado. After one ride in the mountains, with no pain in my knees, I returned home to St. Louis and reached out to Pedego. Becoming a Pedego dealer checked most boxes for the “encore career” I sought. I could work with my wife. I could work in a physically active environment and the fresh air. I could work with new technology in an undeveloped market. We redeveloped a dilapidated property adjacent to an active cycling trail into a beautiful, vibrant store. Just 3 years later, we are one of the top stores in Pedego’s system of 200 dealers nationwide, and we have introduced St. Louis to the benefits of cycling with pedal assist. Mostly, we enjoy helping people rediscover their love of bicycling.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have always said, “Not all challenging days are wonderful, but all wonderful days involve a good challenge.” I know that I am most happy in challenging and exhausting endeavors. Opening our store provided that challenge. Just months after struggling to make our business successful in 2019, we closed our store in early 2020 due to the pandemic. Upon reopening, we learned quickly that nearly everyone who visited our store wanted a bike. We provided a hotly demanded service to our community throughout the pandemic, and we try to share our good fortune forward by supporting local charities and causes.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
I have learned that everyone strives to live life happily and actively, no matter their beliefs, history, or age.
