Meet Angela Brown of Fenton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Brown.

Hi Angela, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Angela Brown. Founder of The Sexy Thyroid Solution, I help women with a slow thyroid and metabolism regain their energy, lose those stubborn pounds, and balance their hormones naturally. At age 22, I was a fresh college grad working as a full-time physical therapist when my whole world changed. It had become increasingly difficult to stay awake during the day; my hair started falling out in clumps, my skin was a mess, I was cold all the time, and my weight was skyrocketing. After a trip to the doctor and one blood test, they told me I had hypothyroidism and put me on the usual thyroid medication (Synthroid). I was hoping this would do the trick, and for a while, it did. However, after a few months, I was back to square one and back to the doctor. They increased my medications and sent me on my way. This vicious cycle happened again and again and again for years. I tried a different doctor but was told the same thing (and put back on the same medication). I lived this way for the next 10 years. In and out of doctor’s offices, blood test after blood test. All they did was tell me I needed to accept my symptoms. This was just life, a factor of getting older. But I wasn’t about to do that! So, I did my own research, took courses, and became a certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner (FDN-P). It was at this point that I finally started getting answers. I began testing myself and kept digging for more answers. I finally saw what all those doctors missed for all those years. I found the holistic approaches that helped get my thyroid back on track. I now feel better than I ever have before! I still have hypothyroidism today, but it is finally controlled with the correct supplements and lifestyle choices that work for my thyroid. As an FDN-P, I now help other women like you to advocate for their health, manage their thyroid health, and feel like themselves again.

You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
I didn’t have a smooth road when I started my thyroid journey. I went through a 15-year battle of not being listened to and told that this was just “normal” to feel this way. I became increasingly frustrated over the years and kept telling myself there had to be a better way. Once I became certified in functional medicine, everything started shifting with my health. So I decided to create a program and course to help other women on this same journey (hypothyroidism is a very common disease.) After starting my own business, I continued to learn more about my body and what worked for it and what didn’t. This only helped fuel me to be there even more for women and coach them along their health journeys.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a functional medicine practitioner specializing in women’s hormone and thyroid health. I help you discover the root causes of your sluggish thyroid and find simple and effective solutions so you can feel like yourself again.

Here’s what makes this program different:

  • It’s Personal: Solutions are based on your lab results, lifestyle, and thyroid. Say goodbye to cookie-cutter packages and hello to the changes your body needs.
  • It’s Holistic: We will explore how your diet, exercise routine, lifestyle, and environment slow down your thyroid hormones. You will be surprised at how connected each of these is!
  • It’s Relatable: I’ve been where you are. I live with a slow thyroid, and after being let down by doctors, I chose to take my health into my own hands. I know this solution works: I was its first participant.

What sets me apart is that, along with being a functional medicine practitioner. I am a licensed physical therapist and personal trainer, so I can take a full-body approach with my clients and incorporate movement and exercise with clients’ protocols based on their test results. I am most of the impact I have made on women’s lives, whether they are clients of mine or just following me on social media. I love being there for women the best way I can since this was what I wished I had when I struggled on my thyroid journey.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting.
You have to be an advocate for your health and push for answers. It isn’t easy when you struggle with thyroid symptoms. Don’t let this stop you from digging deeper. You need to demand a full thyroid panel ( I have a free guide on this) and manage your stress as much as possible, as this can have a massive impact on your thyroid and hormones. Be mindful of eating too many inflammatory foods, as this can also create many issues with your thyroid and hormones.
