Meet Lucia Murphy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucia Murphy.

Hi Lucia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstories.
In 2014, I was approaching 40 years old, having problems in my marriage. I was faced with a decision to make. Do I continue to neglect my health and live with low self-esteem, or could I change my life by changing my attitude toward my mind, body, and soul? I chose to change it all. In November of 2014, I held a 40th birthday party I had asked my husband to attend. After much arguing over it because he wasn’t the social butterfly like me, I decided to go without. He showed up. I only did a little to contribute. Suddenly, someone walked in and asked me if I remembered him. I said No. He pulled a picture of the old and present-day him out of his wallet. I immediately threw my hands up and around him, screaming that the best birthday present ever walked through the door as my soon-to-be ex-husband walked out. Four months later March 2015, I needed a date for a gay wedding, my soon-to-be ex-husband wouldn’t go with me nor support me, so I said, sorry, I can’t help with what happens next. I immediately put a picture of an invitation out on Facebook, asking my friend Glynn, my husband now, to attend, and he said absolutely. Within 5 months, I was moved out and moved in with him.

For years we related to each other as friends until our divorces were complete, and then we made it official that we were dating. From 2015 to May 2020, we traveled the world together. Something that I had never done before. During this time, I also had a small w2 job and became a small business owner working for our local DMV as a 3rd party partner. In May 2020, we went on a hike to the former Tanglwood Ski area and found a house that we moved into 44 days later, got engaged the same day, and then married in October 2020. We continued to travel; travel didn’t and didn’t stop us at all. The only time we stopped traveling was during Covid because we both had it, and the traveling was halted.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey for us has been a smooth road because we love living in the present. Don’t worry about yesterday or tomorrow because yesterday is gone, and tomorrow is never guaranteed. We face ups and downs daily and learn how to deal with them. We have an open and honest line of communication, and we make our decisions together because that’s what a great marriage and work relationship are about.

Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
In 2022 – because of my love of travel, I opened Autobahn Adventure Travel so that we can help others do what we do best. I love to vlog (make videos). We also have our own YouTube channel, website, and social media following that allows us to get people to smile every day, whether it’s a funny video, karaoke, piano playing, or our adventure shenanigans; we do it because we love to.

What are your plans for the future?
This is a great question. My husband’s dream is to retire. I would love to have people in my place of me, so I don’t have to work every day. I would love to pursue doing YouTube and other things that I love to do and not do things that I have to. He used to say somewhere else, but now that we have our special castle in the sky at Tanglwood we will keep doing what we are doing, making people smile.
