Today we’d like to introduce you to Nanci Kavich. Them and their team share their story with us below:
RSVP began in 2003 when Nanci Kavich, a newly single stay-at-home mom, wanted to share her love of paper and the personalized gift with the world. Nanci had always been passionate about etiquette and the wonderfully personal art of the written note. When deciding on a job to provide a living while keeping her available to raise her children, she followed Oprah’s advice, “Do what you love!” and thus began RSVP. Having grown up in St. Louis, went to college in Kansas (with a brief stint in Paris), and now living in Omaha, Nebraska, Nanci has solid midwestern values. She strives to project a unique style while maintaining class, taste, and affordability in life and work. Nanci had previously worked at a prestigious jewelry store and knew the value of treating customers with kindness and care. RSVP has always been about making the customer happy with a quality product, ease with ordering, and the friendliness and personal touch that goes together to make for a pleasant experience.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life! Is any road smooth? If so, I’d like to move to that place. The first struggle was starting a business from the ground up with two small kids at home and needing help. The next big obstacle was the recession, which changed the face of the paper industry. Speaking of which, the internet, E-vite, and DIY were temporary interferences. Then the big things moved from home-based to a brick-and-mortar store – and all that went along with that—moving my store location the week of the shutdown in March of 2020. And all that has followed since then. Health, kids, and parents’ life. But I’m still standing and holding my head up high – because I still believe in my purpose and have a passion for what I do. Bring back the handwritten letter and make the world a happier place!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Since I can remember, I’ve always strived to be unique in my style and the way I present myself. I am a lover of art and design, and being creative is something that brings me serenity and joy. This has followed through with my business. I strive to carry unique items while maintaining good quality and ethics. I buy a lot of fair trade items, as well as from women-owned businesses. I am most proud of my artistic eye. People love and respect my vision, which translates to store happiness and sales.
Let’s end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
I want people to walk out of my store happy, whether it’s a relief and satisfaction from ordering the perfect wedding invitations or excitement and joy from purchasing the perfect gift and most poignant card. I want people to feel good while they are here, to carry that with them when they leave, and to spread happiness to others—making the world a happier place is and has always been my goal.
