Today we’d like to introduce you to Hallie Koch.
Hi Hallie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a passion for art, but I was never sure how I wanted to pursue my dream. Up until about 2 years ago, I was a cake decorator, and for the time being, it was a perfect outlet for my creativity. In 2019 I had my daughter, and although it was one of the most exciting times in my life, I felt lost in my career. Fast forward to 2020, amid Covid, I was overworked and trying to heal from my life. I knew I needed a change, so in June of 21, I quit my job to focus on my art and being a mom. I constantly worked on new paintings and began taking TikTok seriously. It took me a year to go viral on TikTok, but all the pieces fell into place. I began exploring new ways to create things, and eventually, I was able to start a small business. It’s not huge, but it keeps me happy and busy. Now I create paintings, 3D work, and my recent favorite, party cutouts. My younger self would be so happy that I’ve been able to send out artwork to so many different states.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
I would say my journey to where I am now hasn’t always been as easy as it is now. As someone who struggles with anxiety/depression, I found it hard to learn who I was in the middle of working and living life in general. When I was younger, the people I looked up to made me feel like I wouldn’t go anywhere on the path I dreamed of taking. It was discouraging, but it made me realize that being an artist is the only thing I want to do in this life.
Thanks for sharing that. Can you tell us more about your work next?
I’m a master of many things about being an artist. My drive to create new things and only do things that make me happy sets me apart from others. Oil paint is hands down my favorite medium to use and what I specialize in. I’m mostly known for my 3D foam cutouts and cannabis art. On TikTok, I do a lot of oversized art, turning regular-sized items into something 10x their size. I also love finding ways to incorporate food into my art as well. I’m most proud of my sports oil paintings that I did for commissions.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those just starting.
My advice is to make the things that excite you and bring you joy because those are the things that will evolve into something you would have never thought possible.
