Today we’d like to introduce you to Darnell Thomas.
Hi Darnell; we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My name is Big Dunnie. I’ve been rapping for a little under a year, and I have always loved music. I come from a little town called Cahokia, on the border of Illinois and Missouri. I grew up rough. I had less than most but more than others around me. At a young age, I knew the only person who could beat me was me, which taught me to grow up fast. I played sports to make it out of the hood, but in 2013 I was in a horrific car accident that ended my wrestling career. Because of this, I was forced to come back home and start from scratch. For the last couple of years, I have been working to build a legacy I can be proud to leave behind to my loved ones. My brother Jonathan Holman told me I needed to start rapping. He told me I had a gift and must start using it. So I started rapping, trying to see how far the rabbit hole goes and how far I could take this career.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest challenge on the road to success is finding support and opportunities based on the history of the city I am from. Everyone tries to “one-up” newer artists, and getting the ball rolling can sometimes be challenging.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a hip-hop artist from the St. Louis area who is beginning to make waves in the local scene. I have become aware of my musical prowess, which sets me apart from the other artists in the area. My style is similar to Kevin Gates and MO3. I specialize in Hip-hop music and am known for bringing an electrifying performance everywhere I go.
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Since I have recently started my career path, I have not taken any risks. In the future, however, I am willing to take risks to propel my business further into a more profitable standpoint.
