Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabrielle Thompson.
Hi Gabrielle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in the restaurant business. My parents owned the much-loved Scampy’s in Springfield, Illinois. My first birthday party was at our restaurant, and many more after. I would beg my parents to let me come to work with them. I love this industry. It is in my blood. We have an opening in Springfield and need more catering options. We launched Bloom Hospitality & Catering this spring to help fill that void. The food service industry is adapting and changing in exciting ways. I love that we are renewing the family tradition for my kids, who now work alongside me as I did with my parents.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
In addition to my time at Scampy’s, I spent 17 years in hospitality, including 12 years in management. I learned that planning is key, details matter, and customer service is vital to the success of a business. I am applying the experience I gained to ensure that Bloom meets the needs of our clients and that we continue to develop a reputation for going above and beyond – making the events we cater memorable for all.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Bloom is a full-service off-site caterer for small intimate dinners to 300+ guests. We organize, plan, and provide the food and overall ease for every event, from bridal and baby showers to the big day and small corporate events to large parties and fundraisers. We do it all. Bloom caters to Springfield and a 20-mile radius of the city center. Bloom offers traditional cuisine with a modern twist while offering the flexibility for clients to create a menu that fits their needs. I love to see clients at the end of an event when their guests are buzzing about how much they enjoyed it. At Bloom, our team includes Chef Drew Casey and my partner John Huffman. Drew is incredibly talented, and I have enjoyed having John join me on this adventure. He is always in my corner and an asset to the business.
Before we go, can you talk to us about how people can work, collaborate, or support you?
I want to expand to help more in the community and involve local businesses by collaborating on our menu or participating in events. I want to meet with growers, producers, and artisans local to Illinois. We can showcase and celebrate local products and people. I would be excited to hear from anyone interested in working with us.
