Sure! From the humble beginnings of my Mother’s southern restaurant in East St. Louis, IL., to my father, the business savvy leader, who guided me on wisdom and strategic thinking that contributed to the heights of corporate leadership, it was truly a testament to how I embraced the value of commitment, resilience, adaptability, and an enduring passion for making a difference.
Rooted in a close-knit family filled with Southern cultural traditions, I was raised in an environment that nurtured an early understanding of business management. Working alongside my Mother in the restaurant, she introduced me to the values of hard work, customer service, and a deep appreciation for the community. Then the journey took a new direction after high school, working in the service industry as a Cocktail Waitress at a casino; then, I pursued a path in education with aspirations to teach. Yet, as life often unfolds, a different destiny is called. The allure of the business world led me to pivot towards a degree in business, a decision that would lay the foundation for my journey. I explored the world of Cosmetology school, adding another skillset to my portfolio. This unique combination of business expertise and creative finesse is a defining point in shaping my future. In the next chapter, I soared the skies as an airline flight attendant, captivated by the thrill of travel and the joy of service. Though the shadow of 9/11 cast some uncertainties over this chapter with layoffs. The subsequent layoff was a crossroad that led me to a transformative job fair. This event ignited a profound shift in my journey, unveiling a passion for serving others that would become the cornerstone of my career. Guided by the desire to align my passion with my profession, I embarked on a path that eventually led me to a corporate 500 company where I could serve as a leader, not just through authority, but as a true servant leader.
As the years turned into decades, my leadership journey took me to the peak of corporate success. Rising through the ranks, I harnessed the unique blend of skills to shape my legacy as a servant leader and corporate executive. This journey, however, extended beyond the boardroom, as I devoted my time to multiple non-profit boards, cementing my commitment to community and service. Today, I stand proud as a beacon of inspiration, owning my own company, Tiffany Ink, LLC., and employing the skills that resonate with the values that My Mother and father implanted in me. My journey is a narrative of how I persevered from my Mother’s restaurant to the corner office, marked by an unwavering passion for serving others and creating lasting memories.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Not at all! How much time do we have? Lol! My journey has been marked by a series of formidable challenges that shaped my path to success, resilience, and personal growth. I often sought opportunities that aligned with my values, contributing to my sense of fulfillment and accomplishment. This journey extended beyond the professional realm, as I often struggled to balance work and family life. Then there was the abrupt loss of my father at the age of 20, which also cast a shadow on my path, impacting my mental state of being and resilience. Have you heard of Imposter Syndrome, a common struggle for even the most accomplished professionals? I dealt with this often. Despite my achievements, self-doubt sometimes crept in, reminding me of the societal pressures and expectations I faced. There were also struggles in the corporate world being a woman of color. Navigating the corporate landscape and encountering barriers that required second-to-none strength and determination to overcome was no small job. Dealing with corporate biases, I consistently found myself in the position of having to prove my capabilities. This demanded continuous validation, which often meant I had to work twice as hard to earn recognition and respect. As well as navigating discriminatory policies and practices while occupying leadership roles was another uphill battle. Often my commitment to inclusivity clashed with systemic barriers that demanded constant advocacy to promote change and foster an equitable work environment for all. Through each of these challenges, I embodied constant determination to overcome adversity.
