Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ CEO.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
I got started as a teen, but the entertainment industry and music in general have always been a huge passion of mine ever since I was a kid watching DJ Skribble on MTV. When I was 15/16 years old, I began going viral on MySpace randomly. I connected with companies like 187 Inc Clothing and artists such as Saint Dogg of Kottonmouth Kings (R.I.P.) and began promoting. I moved from Northern California to Arizona for a bit around the same time the talk of the industry was that Arizona would be the next hotspot/hub for the industry. Around this time, people like Ludacris and The Game were signing artists from Arizona, there were shows every weekend, and labels were all over the place. I began working as the promoter for a concert venue called The Cell Block Venue and running their MySpace page while at the same time using that to leverage connections with artists in the area and local labels and began promoting for them from my MySpace page as well. From then on, I started a label called World Wide Hip Hop Productions with TV Producer Mafiyo Blacklight out of California. Later he went on to manage Omar Gooding, and I brought in recording artist Caddy Mac (best known for his track “Yo B*tch” with Kevin Gates) as my leading artist and business partner. We did multiple shows at various strip clubs earning a name for ourselves in the southwest until we caught the attention of Rappin 4-Tay and his camp. We then started working with him and his manager and formed the label 4Flavaz Worldwide under his already established 4Flavaz Ent. After a couple of years, we dissolved 4Flavaz worldwide, and I went back to the West Coast and started working with Black Market Records on their promotional team.
I also started a TV show on MyTV26 in Modesto, CA, called Turnt Up TV. From there, I started a podcast called The DJ CEO Show, which gained attention in 60 countries and put me on SiriusXM’s radar. 2019, I helped Caddy Mac secure and release his song with Kevin Gates. I started traveling back and forth between Reno, NV, and Los Angeles to network, make connections, and secure more features and songs. I transitioned to FM radio for a while, getting picked up by 97.7 FM Outlaw Radio in Canada, then moving to Cumulus and working with their FM stations in Reno. In 2022, I moved to the Midwest and started working with 103.3 FM in Bentonville, Arkansas. Through some mutual industry connections, I was linked up with Bryan Thompson, who was from Los Angeles but currently lives in Bonne Terre, Missouri. We did an event together in Bonne Terre and sold out the venue; from then on, he became my manager and business partner. We started a new label called Let’s Get It Productions and, in April of 2023, released our first single on the label titled Hurry Up & Buy, featuring Lil Wayne and Gucci Mane. The song quickly gained traction and attention to myself and the label. Bryan went to a local show and saw BTH Blaze perform one night and set up a meeting; we ended up signing BTH Blaze and putting him on a track with Rick Ross. From there, we signed ICN from Chicago after meeting him on a business trip in Los Angeles and, as of recently, signed a deal with Empire Distribution.
Can you tell us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth?
It’s been fun but only sometimes smooth, but then again, if the entertainment industry were easy, it wouldn’t pay so well (lol). The main issue has been dealing with people who try to get in with us for the wrong reasons, don’t want to be team players, or try to take us down when they can’t keep up with us.
As you know, we’re big fans of Let’s Get It Productions. What can you tell our readers who might need to familiarize themselves with the brand?
It’s a record label founded by DJ CEO (myself). We aren’t the run-of-the-mill “indie” label by any means. All our admin has industry experience in different areas, many connections, and access to resources most people don’t have. We also do almost all of our releases with mainstream big-name artists collaborations, and we recently signed a major distribution deal with Empire Distribution. We have a huge New Year’s Eve party coming up in Park Hills, MO, hosted by DJ CEO and co-hosted by Daizha Morgann, aka Octobooty with performances by BTH Blaze, Travis Ford, ICN and others, as well as our first compilation album by DJ CEO called Street Gods Vol. 1 featuring BTH Blaze, ICN, Travis Ford, Spice 1, Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Young Buck, Sticky Fingaz, and many more.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My manager and business partner, Bryan Thompson, our marketing director, Ditzy Lizzy, the artists on the label, BTH Blaze and ICN, and the people in the industry who have allowed us to grow at the rate we are, and of course, all the people streaming the songs, coming to our events and supporting us.
