Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyshawn Gilbert.
Hi Keyshawn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I started by making clothes for myself because I wanted new clothes but couldn’t always afford them. I took my old things and customized them to be unrecognizable. Eventually, people started wanting pieces like them, and thus, my brand was started.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Trying to do everything that comes with a business alone has been an extremely bumpy road, and only a few people behind you keep you motivated. Trying to deal with things in your life while building a business from scratch can be overwhelming. Working a job you aren’t fond of, sacrificing fun and sleeping to pursue dreams, losing friends, etc. It’s a heavy price, but I’m willing to pay for the people and things I want.
I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an aspiring Fashion Designer specializing in fashion mock-up creation, fashion design, and graphic/logo design. I’m known for being a fashion-forward person who is always up on the latest things within the industry and likes to create, whether it’s clothing design, drawing, or photography. I’m most proud of how far I have come with my brand and all the obstacles I’ve overcome to get it where it is. What sets me apart is that I’m not going into fashion with a specific style; I can be all over the place and keep on details that most people overlook.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
You will feel every emotion when going after your dreams: happiness, anger, sadness, etc. It taught me that’s how I knew this was what I wanted to do because I kept going through all those emotions when it would have been easier to give up. It taught me dedication and persistence above all else.
