Hi Dana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In February 2020, my mother passed away after suffering a lengthy illness. A month later, in March 2020, COVID hit the USA, and the world shut down. The one time I needed to be with my family, “COVID isolation” was enforced. I could feel myself falling into depression. My upbeat and happy personality changed quickly. I knew I had to do something to bring back my smile! My mom said, “Girl, get up and let your light shine!” I prayed and asked God to show me the way. Of course, I was particular: I wanted something that would be fun and bring joy to others! While scanning YouTube one evening, I came across a video explaining how to start your yard card business. That was it! Months later, my daughter purchased my first set of yard cards. I put my first sign up in my family yard and put a picture on Facebook. The rest is history.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
3 main challenges:
- Purchase inventory (yard cards) along with basic supplies (multiple-size stakes, tape, and zip ties)
- Choose an area for storage space. (I started with an office, now I’m in the garage:)
- Marketing/Networking Marketing never stops! You have to find what works for you because it’s only you! I take pictures and videos and process reels for my FB page. I update my website as needed. I market to schools, community outreach programs, etc.
As you know, we’re big fans of DC Dazzling Yard Signs. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
I’m proud of the “top-notch” customer service skills portrayed to all clients. I value their time and treat them as such. When a customer requests a sign, we go the extra mile to personalize it to the specific interest or celebration of the honoree. Some of the messages we have received from customers are listed below:
