Today we’d like to introduce you to Empress Goonie
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always had a passion for fashion and music! I love creating and designing clothing! It’s fun and exciting! Music is literally my heartbeat! I can’t breathe without it. As a child, art has always been one of my favorites. I always loved painting and listening to music! Piano and violin were the first instruments I learned to play. I guess I kind of just made them coexist together. I would paint on my clothes so that I could stand out. I never wanted to be the same as anyone. I liked the idea of creating my own look and design. Watching my oldest brother Avionn create songs in the studio and seeing him perform his music at parties inspired me to create some of my own. I started to take my art a lot more serious when I started to gain numerous amount of compliments. It motivated me to keep going!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth? Not at all. It’s been a very rocky road with really deep pot holes! Some struggles along the way consist of not understanding the business. Creating is one thing to do. It comes natural so that’s the easy part. There is “invisible work” to be done, which is the business side of it all. Learning promotion, marketing, networking and also budgeting for the funding of your new found business that once was just you doing what you love. Creating art! Then aside from that, life’s happenings! Death in the family can be a very large unexpected burden. Losing a close loved one is never easy.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an artist to sum things up! I am a fashion model, designer, musician, actress, content creator, youth counselor and cosmetologist! I specialize in arts! I am known for my sometimes vulgar lyrics in the songs I have out now on any music platform you prefer to listen to music on. Apple Music, Spotify, YouTube etc. I am most proud of being a leader in my community! I was presented a plaque from the city Representative for helping better our communities for the youth! What sets me apart from others is my aura and energy! I am a very positive and kindhearted person who would literally give you the shirt off my back as well as the shoes off my feet. No hesitation!
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something surprising most people might not know about me is that I did not get to wear a cap and gown for high school graduation nor did I get to walk across the stage at graduation. Sadly, I had to receive my high school diploma after ten days of summer school, due to missing half a credit.
