Meet Chelsey Huff of STL – Virtually

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsey Huff

Hi Chelsey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2017, I got married, and with a design degree in hand, I decided to create our wedding stationery. Bringing my vision to life with the help of a printer sparked a passion for designing wedding and event stationery. I continued this passion by designing for friends and family while maintaining a full-time job.

In 2020, my circumstances changed significantly, as did many others’: I lost my job, finally became pregnant with our first child, and transitioned to being a stay-at-home mom. Nine months after our first child was born, I found out I was pregnant again with our surprise blessing. Amidst the craziness of having two kids under two, I couldn’t shake the idea of running my own business. Recalling the joy I found in designing my wedding stationery, I realized I wanted to offer that same joy and a luxurious, all-in-one stationery service to others.

So, in 2023, I took the plunge and launched Chelsey Huff Design LLC, and I haven’t looked back since!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Some of the struggles along the way included balancing my full-time job with my side design projects initially, which was quite challenging. In 2020, losing my job and navigating pregnancy while in the middle of a pandemic added significant stress. Starting a business from scratch required a lot of effort and resilience, especially while caring for two children under the age of two—if you know, you know. Building a client base and managing all aspects of the business on my own also presented ongoing challenges.

However, each struggle has taught me valuable lessons and contributed to the growth and success of Chelsey Huff Design. I believe we are always learning, and I love leaning into other small business owners for the knowledge and experience they have and are willing to share.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Chelsey Huff Design is known for high-quality designs and luxury paper quality, offering full-service luxury wedding and event stationery design.

When you work with us, you receive personalized, one-on-one consulting. We sit down and discuss your vision, colors, and the style/theme of your event. Then, we personalize your stationery to match those elements.

What sets us apart is that we don’t just offer custom designing; we handle the printing as well. All of your designs will be printed on the highest quality paper, and your signage will be printed on either acrylic or gatorboard, a thick, high-quality foam board. We then mail the stationery to you, or for an additional cost, we can mail your invitations to your guests or/and set up the stationery at your event. We are your one-stop shop, providing as little or as much help as you need.

I am most proud of our upcoming website launch, which will feature a shop where you can buy semi-custom designs directly from the site. Semi-custom are pre-designed stationery templates that we personalize with your event information, and then we print and ship them to you. This option is perfect for clients who want luxury paper and printing quality for their wedding without the higher price point of fully custom designs.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I would say my advice would be to leverage social media. When I was first starting out, I got on Instagram and followed every person I could find who was in the industry. As they posted about different networking groups or working with different vendors, I followed those accounts as well.

Then, as much as it was out of my comfort zone, I started attending those events. Networking events like Babes in Business nights or, for those in the wedding industry, connecting with Off White and attending their events have been incredibly valuable. These are my two favorite networking groups where I get to connect with many leading business owners, learn from them, and form meaningful connections.

Also in the wedding world, I participate in a lot of styled shoots. This is a great way to connect with other vendors, get creative with my designs, and have them professionally photographed, which showcases what I can offer to clients.

At the end of the day, just be kind, take the initiative, be open to learning, and don’t hesitate to ask for guidance. Most people are willing to help if approached respectfully and thoughtfully.
