Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Bouzier
Hi Rachel, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved music. My parents and grandparents always tell me how when I was a toddler I would walk around the house, or be in the car singing along [at the top of my lungs] to whatever music they were playing. Later on in life I joined the church choir, the school choir, and started recording and performing with friends of mine who are also performing artist.
I’ve always considered myself a writer first, so initially I just wanted to be behind the scenes writing – but I wasn’t able to gain a lot of traction as a writer [here], so I started singing my own songs.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like I said, I’m a writer first. So I thoroughly enjoy the process of writing, arranging, performing and recording songs. So anything beyond that is a struggle for me [lol]. But honestly, being intentional and focused on my craft helps all the not so fun stuff and “struggles” not seem so bad. I understand that the not so great times are just a part of the territory. A fact of life.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My music is a celebration of life. Through my art, I strive to create a space where we can all find a little more joy and a deeper appreciation for the beautiful complexity of our shared human journey.
It’s still super early in my career to say exactly what I’m known for, but my debut EP, CRUSHED, is how I gained a lot of my following. And I wish I could say exactly how I did that, but it all happened very organically. Three of the tracks on the [7 track] EP where older songs I did on some YouTube type beats; two of the songs I did with my friend, Michael Franco; and two of the tracks I did with K Kudda, who I know from around the scene – and am a fan of – so when the opportunity presented itself to work with him I made it work.
I’m actually most proud of the way I pushed myself creatively on the songs I did with Kudda. Before working with him I originally planned on doing 5 songs, but we were able to get some consecutive sessions in just a few weeks before I planned on releasing the EP – and for someone who is still an independent artist with no team, thats not a lot of time – and I really liked what we did. It was also our first time working together in that capacity, so luckily we found a grove early on. But both of the tracks I did with him, “Aires of Harmony” and “You Should Be Ashamed” are somewhat experimental for me, and getting out of my comfort zone like that pulled something different out of me as a writer.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
On July 19th I released, “I’ll Take You”, a new track from the upcoming deluxe version of CRUSHED. There will be at least three new tracks on the deluxe, set to come out later this year.
