Today we’d like to introduce you to Avonda Anderson.
Hi Avonda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started Melanated Rich, in 2016. I was always a lover of beauty and fashion. However, when I looked around my neighborhood in South St. Louis, all the places for beauty supplies were sold by, made by, and created for nonpeople of color. I opened Melanated Rich to change that picture. I wanted to show my people that you can have the luxury right here in the neighborhood and buy products made by and for people of color.
I also am a published author. I wrote on a book on how to motivate yourself to live free. Which is now available on my website avondaanderson.com
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
A lot of brands I sold were not department name brands so I spent a lot of time educating my customers on products that were made specifically with them in mind.
Although my location was in the heart of the Cherokee district. It was tucked on the back end side street so a lot of people just didn’t know I was there. The brick and mortar was only open for a year and I moved all sales online to melanatedrich.com
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
After the closing of my store, I opened it online and launched my signature vegan skincare line Reserved Luxury in Hollywood CA. I specialize in luxury experience and elite customer service. What sets me apart is my attention to detail and my product’s work! My skincare line is for all skin types (oily, dry, combination, and normal to sensitive).

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the Cardinals, the new arch grounds are lovely.
St. Louis has a lot of potential.
