Check Out Cheyenne Vandegrift’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Vandegrift.

Hi Cheyenne, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The Small Moments Too began in November 2020. I work full-time in the nonprofit sector and had been working remotely since the very beginning of the pandemic. I absolutely loved my job but I’m often able to be very creative because I would meet new people all the time! This wasn’t really happening in 2020 and I really needed something to be creative – so I started painting!

The name itself is also inspired by a lesson many learned in 2020. I know I wasn’t alone in the fact that I came to really appreciate the small moments in life that I’d always taken for granted. That’s what The Small Moments Too is all about! Reminding people that the small moments in life are worthy of celebrating, too, because they’re often the ones that end up meaning the most. I started out painting at night, whatever I could, and then had the idea to paint my friends and family custom ornaments. These took off! People loved having a custom ornament that could capture a photograph or people they loved. I painted over 200 portrait ornaments last year! Since then, I’ve expanded to painting custom journals and now I really love painting flowers. The biggest project I’ve done was an outdoor sign for a business!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It certainly hasn’t been an easy road. I was by no means a professional painter and still am not. I’m constantly learning but that’s what I love about it. I love trying new things and learning new things. It helps me to stay creative and helps my overall mindset. I’ve gotten into a habit of trying to paint at least once a day, even if it’s just a little bit. And now that I have a good portfolio of what I can do, I try to expand and try new things.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I started out painting portraits on Christmas ornaments and am still known for that and look forward to creating more meaningful gifts this Christmas. I love combining flowers and portraits when I can – weddings are perfect for this! I do love wedding paintings, custom guestbooks + custom portrait stickers of the bride + groom. I also offer paintings of the bride’s bouquet! It’s a great way to remember your flowers. I’m proudest of my love wedding paintings; there’s just so much excitement and energy. The reveal is the best moment. I love painting anything that will capture a special moment. Art means so much to me and I want it to mean something to those receiving it too.

How do you think about happiness?
Lots of things! My husband + son, my friends, coffee, nature, baking, my job, hiking, and obviously painting. More importantly, my faith reminds of what is important in life. My relationship with God keeps me grounded and is the true source of an unfailing joy.
