Today we’d like to introduce you to Lecia Billups.
Hi Lecia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
S.H.E Pretty was born in 2017, during one of the most difficult times in my life. I had just given birth to my daughter and was battling with postpartum, on top of having to relocate to my fiancé’s mother’s basement with my family of six. My fiancé introduced me to Oil Fragrances many years prior, and I had fallen in love with how fragrant and long-lasting the scents were in comparison to traditional perfumes.
We took our love of oil fragrances and the shared desire to be self-made entrepreneurs and, of course, what little money we had saved to purchase our first 16 fragrances, eight men and eight women. The response was crazy! There were so many people, friends, family, and strangers who supported us. Over the years, our fragrance list has grown. We’ve also added hand whipped body butter (Pretty Butter), sugar scrub, incense, and many other products to our collection. I’d have to admit that S.H.E Pretty has been my saving grace. It has allowed me to meet so many other entrepreneurs, I’ve collaborated with many businesses and agencies and have been able to showcase my talents and what I love. Sometime in the near future, I’ll be opening a physical location so keep a lookout!
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There were many struggles along the way. I remember a time when the orders were coming in and there was no product. I was barely able to keep inventory stocked, but I knew I had to keep pushing for my customers and those who believed in me.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Most people don’t know that I’m really into web design and digital media. I create all of my flyers, labels and promo. What sets me apart from others is that if there’s something that I want to do, give me google and a couple of days, and I guarantee I’ll get it done.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice for finding a mentor would be to put yourself out there and ask questions. You’ll be surprised at how many people are willing to give you a “free game”. Attend pop-up shops and non-profit events. Even when I had nothing, I gave away a lot of free stuff just to get people tuned in. I’ve sponsored giveaways and collaborated with other local business organizations.
