Meet Podcast Missouri

Today we’d like to introduce you to Podcast Missouri.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Podcast MO is a collective of local Missouri-based podcasts that was started around two years ago with the hope of connecting local podcasters together, along with their audience, through communication and collaboration.

Podcast MO was originally started when there weren’t really any great avenues to find local podcasts that someone could relate to on a personal level. Everyone knows about the major mainstream podcasts because of many reasons, one being mass marketing, but what about all of the podcasts being produced right next to you in your own city? Better yet, what about for your entire state? How can you find these types of podcasts that might not have the budget or ability to mass market or get off the ground like the mainstream podcasts with a big network backing?

Out of this Podcast, MO, along with other states now too, was created. We teamed up with an awesome podcast out of New Hampshire who was thinking on the same wavelength as us and birthed an organization called Podcast USA where each state could have its own section, all with the goal of connecting local podcasters together to help form an open community where their audiences could come and see the other great work being produced around them. Our website and social media pages help podcasts open up to new audiences and can also provide a landing page for new or low-budget podcasts that might not have the opportunity of a website for themselves. The idea isn’t anything too wild – get creative people together and let them create!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
We haven’t had too many major struggles since our operation is pretty simple. I would say the only real struggles are carving out time to share as much as we can from our podcast’s social content/pages and just in general, adding more podcasts to the site. We would love to be a central location where someone could find every single podcast made in Missouri, but we are still working on that part!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Even as simple of a concept as it is, I think it’s awesome to already have upwards of 60 local podcasts on our site! I’m not sure if anything necessarily sets us apart. I think anyone could do what we are doing because all we are is a free information source, but I do think one of the differences is that all of this comes from podcasters. Everyone who has had a hand in starting up Podcast MO has had numerous podcasts so we can relate to the wants and needs that come along with creating and growing your podcast, which we are hoping to use to help us grow as well into the future.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The We Need To Talk Podcast deserves a lot of credit, specifically Meader, one of the hosts. We were able to collaborate through podcasting and create something we thought would be cool, which is a part of the Podcast MO foundation. Other than that, we will always give shout-outs to the great podcasts that call themselves a part of Podcast Missouri and allow us to share their great content.
